Another excellent Cheshire day ranger outing, this time for the three railtours in the area - Pathfinder's "The Cumbrian Coastal Express"; Railway Touring Company's "The Mancunian"; and Saphos Trains' "Pennine Moors Express".
We start the day, as is frequently the case these days at Hartford to see The Cumbrian Coast Express top'n'tailed with 47802 & 47812 heading north. Quick trip to Crewe next for the "Pennine Moors Express". At Crewe, I only just managed to get the grids on 3S71 thanks to me assuming they were departing out the station heading north until I realised otherwise! As for the tour itself, I had no idea D213 would be on it until she rounded the corner north of the station - I was very pleasantly surprised by this!
Next, it was a trip to Manchester. Unable to make it to Macclesfield in time due to many delays across all lines, I stuck to just seeing the tour through the Castlefield Corridor at Manchester Oxford Rd where the tour was bizarrely sent ahead of a Northern Blackpool service despite being early! I chased this to Victoria and saw the 47 thrash out there. Finally, I'd see her at Alderley Edge before heading back to Crewe to get D213 roar out of the station.
Overall, a great day out! One which, despite the storms and closures from the day before, managed to be quite a trouble-free trip!
