Noam Chomsky said (in the 90s!) that the military & weapons are our primary "product" to sell now. We have a military for hire to go anywhere, because the democratic process is gone. And the reason war movies are so gung ho patriotic is because the equipment used in them is from the military itself, and they have script control. It's unaffordable without their help.

Not really. You would've had to have already read Good Old Neon by David Foster Wallace in order to get Matt's referring to the protagonist of the short story, in the short story collection Oblivion, committing suicide by crashing his car into a bridge abutment after taking a large dose of Benadryl and then describing what the afterlife is like as "an infinite sea or span or passage of time in which to express or convey all the infinitely dense and shifting worlds of stuff inside you every moment of your life." At most, it's an inside reference. Matt's clever like that.
