Here's an idea for a theory: Muggle born enrollment was depressed during the first war, also adding to a Slytherin surplus. We know muggle borns have their letters delivered by a teacher who explains the magical world. I can't see many families wanting to join a society actively at war with itself.

Harry's quidditch legacy: First year: He plays in gryffindor vs slytherin and hufflepuff. He missed the one vs ravenclaw because of the Stone incident/being in the hospital. Harry won both the games he played. Second year: played gryffindor vs slytherin (aka the rogue bludger incident) but then the rest if the season us canceled due to the chamber of secrets Third year: This is the only year that Harry plays all three games. He lost against hufflepuff because of the dementors, but won both the ravenclaw and slytherin, leading gryffindor to the quidditch cup. Fourth year: whole year canceled because of the triwizard tournament Fifth year: Harry plays against Slytherin but then he gets the ban from Umbridge. However, with Ginny as seeker, gryffindor wins the quidditch cup again. Sixth year: Harry plays and beats slytherin. Then he ends his quidditch career with a loss to hufflepuff because McLaggen hits him with the bludger and knocks him unconscious halfway through the match. Harry then misses the final match vs ravenclaw because he's in detention with Snape. So, Ginny plays seeker again and wins the quidditch cup

I’d like to point out that 200 Slytherins in the stands fits quite well with the class size we see before the war, in Snape’s Worst Memory. There we see that there are around 100 fifth years total, suggesting 25 Slytherins in the year and 175 in the school if all is even, which is close to the 200 here in the stands (and proves just how little the Slytherins suffered from the war, especially compared to the other houses)

Finding fault in ones own action or inaction following a traumatic event is super common. My dad had a widow maker heart attack about a decade back, I happened to be home from work that day and I was able to provide basic aid as the ambulance came but he was dead for about six minutes(I blamed my inability and lack of knowledge in emergency medicine). The paramedics brought him back and did some modern high tech voodoo to intentionally lower his body temperature and slowly bring him back but there was a few months where he could barely even remember my name or what was going on(I blamed myself for allowing him to die robbing him of his memory). He had a long road but made a decent recovery though he still weak due to multiple other medical issues like cancer. I took me years before it stopped being my fault in my head even after my dad thanked me for saving him, even after my mom told me it was more than she could have ever done, even after the doctors told me that I was the only reason he was still alive today. I never get mad at characters that blame themselves for things they perceive as being their fault regardless of how stupid it seems from any other perspective because I have been that idiot.

It wasn't until I was on riding my motorcycle home one day and was struck head on by a ford f150 that swerved into my lane that I finally understood. I was only about two blocks from my house so my dad arrived before the ambulance and all he could do was cry and tell me that he loved me as I bled out on the pavement completely shattered. I could see it in his eyes that he felt the same pitiful helplessness that I did and knew that it wasn't his fault and so how could what happened to him be mine. At that point I had lost a lot of blood through my shattered leg sticking out of my leg so I started to sing what might have been my last words. "I don't want a pickle, I'd rather ride on my motorcycle. I don't want a tickle, no I'd rather ride on my motorcycle. And III don't want to die, I just want to ride on my motorcy.....cle." Anything it might have said _other_ than what it ended up saying is now impossible, where it wasn't before. Reading it decided it; created it. Or to put it another, creepier way: Once you open the box, you become PART of the box. I think we should nip this in the bud right now. Trelawney is not using a timeturner. You already have the problem of her needing to change history, which isn't how time travel works, and it wouldn't make sense for her to switch with herself in the middle of class. But also, she does not think of herself as a fraud. She is not like Lockhart who has no talent aside from memory charms. She has a flare for the dramatic and likes to pretend to foresee death or danger, but she still believes she has power. She isn't faking it all. She wouldn't use a timeturner. And McGonnagol or someone by now would have discovered it. McGonnagol does consider her a fraud, but she would have her fired if she knew about her tricking students with a timeturner. I don't believe it is plausible, although it is sort of an interesting theory. I think the theory of her divining lots of things but misinterpreting them is the better theory of yours.
@Huff-and-Puff
4 күн бұрын
Yea I just assumed Trelawneys powers are there, she did in fact inherit something from her great grandmother… but it’s not in the way she thinks. It seems like she doesn’t know, or at least isn’t aware at the time, when she’s making a real prediction. And I doubt she’s only ever made 2 predictions ever, she’s only made 2 TO DUMBLEDORE. But she’s in her 50s when Harry is in school, so there is a chance she’s made plenty more real predictions throughout her life and possibly just doesn’t know when she’s making a real one. And when she makes the prophecy , Dumbledore doesn’t tell her, so she isn’t aware she makes that prediction. As well as when Harry hears her at the end of testing, she isn’t aware. I think she truly does believe she has a gift, she just doesn’t realize that her day to day predictions are not what makes her a seer, it’s the moments she can’t remember. But I always looked at it like that whole old wives tale of “twins run in the family” or “twins skip a generation” type of thing. She definitely inherited *something* from her ancestor, but it wasn’t 100% of her powers and it doesn’t work the way she thinks it does.

Hey Brothers, I came up with a POA time turner theory that will knock your socks off, and that I’d love to see you do video on! My theory summarized: Hermione always planned to save Buckbeak using the time turner, and Harry didn’t originally save himself and Sirius from the dementors at the end of the book, but was actually saved first by Severus Snape and his doe patronus. Allow me to explain. One of the major problems with the time turner plot in POA is that it leads to a bootstrap paradox at the lake. Only because Future Harry saves Past Harry from the dementors, Past Harry is able to travel back in time as now Future Harry and save himself. But if Harry hadn’t survived at the lake, he wouldn’t have been alive to go back and save himself. This is a major problem, unless we have misunderstood all along how time turners work in the HP canon (Which does NOT include Cursed Child!!!). Part of my theory is that time turners can only be used to go back and change past events, if the time travelers plans what they will use the turner for in advance, and then successfully executes their plan. Hermione for example, she can plan ahead of time on using the time turner to go back and take multiple classes held in the same hour, but when she misses a Charms class in Chapter 15 by accidentally sleeping through it, she can’t just go back in time and fix it. Time turner’s aren’t magic erasers for a wizards mistakes. For example, you can’t just go back in time and erase Cedric’s death (looking at you Cursed Child)! Hermione being very caught up and involved in the defense for Buckbeaks trial would’ve wanted to do something to help him, and she had just the thing. She planned all along to go back and free Buckbeak, and I believe even Dumbledore was in it with her to do this, which is why he acts so in the know during the execution/escape scene But then she got sidetracked, by being caught up in the whole Shrieking Shack fiasco with Black, Lupin, Pettigrew and… Snape. Why is Snape important? I’m glad you asked. When Harry and Sirius are later at the lake under attack by the Dementors, the only person who would’ve been present and able to cast a patronus to save them would’ve been Snape. Lupin after all had already transformed into his wolf form. I believe that Snape awoke from his unconscious state and ran to save Harry. Harry did not see Snape, but saw something that looked like a doe/stag, but being half unconscious himself couldn’t really tell the difference. This allows Harry to survive, and then him and Hermione would go back in time. From here on out, I will refer to this original timeline Harry as Harry #1. I believe Harry #1 this time ends up running to the edge of the lake and casts his Patronus to save what we will call Harry #2. Harry #2 looks across the lake before passing out, and sees someone who looks like him, who he thinks is his father. Then this Harry #2 wakes up in the hospital, he and Hermione #2 go back in time and now Harry #2 realizes that it wasn’t actually his father that saved him, but himself, so he runs forward to save what I will call Harry #3. To summarize it, there are three timelines: Timeline 1- Snape saves Harry #1 Timeline 2- Harry #1 saves Harry #2, Harry # 2 sees what he thinks is James Timeline 3- Harry #2 realizes that who he thought was James was actually him, saves Harry #3. In this theory, time travel sorts of works as an editor, adding extra layers, almost like re-recording over another recording on a tape or something like that. What I like about this theory is it solves all of the time travel paradoxes in the book, and makes such logical sense. And it is fitting and beautiful that Snape’s doe Patronus (representing Lily) and Harry’s stag Patronus (representing James) both played pivotal roles in this rescue. Anyways, I really hope you read this, I think this is just the sort of theory you guys will love.
@rakusa9806

Completely agree! The time turner thing always bugged me in this book, for both the Hermione classes and the save in the end. You can't save yourself in the future if you died first time around. MAYBE Sirius for kisses in the very first round and harry was saved after he blacked out at the very last moment and then went back to save them both and 3rd time around we got this. Hermione should have used get time turner 3xday - twice for classes, once for naps. 😂

One MAJOR plot point that shatters your Snape Patronus part. "Fudge asks about the retreating dementors but Snape *doesn't know why* they left Harry, Hermione, and Black alone." HP POA - Chapter 21 Snape was never there, he arrived and found Harry and Co unconscious as the Dementors flew away.
@dws781
3 күн бұрын
@@Martyn_Wolf there are two possible explanations; 1. Snape is lying or 2. The one I think more likely is that this is already the 2nd timeline where Harry has gone back and now saved himself, thus erasing timeline 1 where Snape saved him, and my proof for that would that Harry wakes up thinking he saw his dad. So I believe my theory still can hold up against that challenge.
@Martyn_Wolf

@@dws781 That's called grasping at straws to make your theory fit. You're choosing to forget that when we see it from Harry's view having gone back in time it mentions about Harry seeing Snape arriving *just after* the Dementors flee and conjuring up stretchers. So your Snape theory doesn't hold up. I've always held the suspicion that they've done this time twice before and we the audience see them on their 3 loop.

I honestly wonder why there aren't more muggle-borns or half-bloods who don't do that to some degree. No I agree with J. She is highly intelligent and completely understands the rules of quidditch 100%. There isnt a second in this series where Hermione doesnt “understand” the sport. It’s a matter of her not caring. She doesn’t care, doesn’t see the appeal to put so much heart and energy and effort into a thing you can’t control (from a fan perspective) and wasting time playing a sport that isn’t advantageous to her grades (as a player). I think she thinks it’s not important. If they gave out grades for quidditch, she’d play and probably be good at it and put more effort into it. But because it’s an extra curricular and doesn’t affect her grades, she doesn’t put much stock into it. I think Ginny says “don’t pretend to understand quidditch…” which is the wrong wording. Hermione understands it, she just doesn’t care. Which is the point I think J was trying to make.

@@Huff-and-Puff There's a HUGE difference between not understanding quidditch form and intellectual standpoint and not understanding quidditch from a fan or athlete standpoint. Ginny's 100% right that she doesn't understand it, because quidditch is so much more than just the rules and plays and strategies and points. Quidditch is play and effort and heartbreak and rivalries. It's passion and the rush of the wind and close calls and the feel of putting on that uniform and becoming part of a team. It's the elated feeling of reaching out to just barely get your hands on that quaffle you thought you'd miss or the adrenaline of a narrow miss by a bludger. Hermione does not understand that.

What I always thought was weird about Hermione missing charms in thinking about the sequence of events from her point of view. Logically she would have gone to charms with Harry and Ron, then find a secluded place to go back in time without being seen to go to ancient runes or whatever other class. Instead, apparently she decided to walk with Harry and Ron to charms, then sneak away to go to the other class, go back in time, then sneak back to Harry and Ron to go to charms.

I think when she went back in time just before Charms it’s to go to another class, after which she would have to remember to go to Charms. Saying “he broke a rule so he’s not allowed to be annoyed because another student’s cat killed his pet,even though he protected the rat by keeping it on him and leaving it locked in his room,never leaving it in a place a cat could get it and the cat that killed his pet rat (that his brother gave him) was actively brought into his dorm on numerous occasions by his friend” is,in my opinion,unfair. What if there are "200 Slytherin supporters in the crowd" is because they allow Hogsmeade residence to buy tickets to watch the matches? If you google the population of Hogsmeade it says it's about 3000 people that live there. If there are approximately 300 students and staff and the rest of the seats make up the residence of Hogsmeade, there could be 200 people that support Slytherin, and still have a massive more amount of people that support Gryffindoor. It could also be a way to raise money for the school, as most high school sports games cost money to watch, so why wouldn't a Quidditch match. I know there's no real evidence of this, and it wouldn't make the most sense since Sirius Black is still at large, but it could explain some of it.

One theory I have about the time turner conundrum that J brought up is that the "timeline" is already pre-determined. Meaning that all possibilities from them have already been thought of by the universe and the time-turners aren't able to act against that pre-determined outcome. I think the time turner just wouldn't work in that situation. Like time turners are unable to take you to points in time that'll create paradoxes like Hermione not being able to make it to Charms class because Harry and Ron already know she wasn't there. This would also explain why no one goes back more than a few hours not just because of the aging process that happens coming back but they're trying to go into a more concrete past that has little to no loopholes to avoid paradoxes.

About Trelawny - doesn't she usually enter the classroom after the students? So she ducks back behind the shawls or whatever maybe ten minutes before class starts and waits for her future self to show up in the same place. They high-five or whatever as Future Self sweeps dramatically through the shawls. Present Self sits back there, watching and listening throughout the class. Future Self ducks behind the shawls after class ends, they have a short debrief after which Present Self travels back, becoming Future Self 2.0, and Future Self Original becomes Present Self, waiting for this class's Future Self to come back. ...that makes sense, right? Trelawny sits back, hiding in the shadows to watch what will happen, her future self (who already witnessed the class from the shadows) shows up, teaches, warns Neville about the cup. "Original" Trelawny goes back in time to teach the class (as she always has done) and "future" Trelawny (herself after teaching the lesson) goes to continue her day from the spot she just disappeared from. Loop closed. The switcheroo you mention happens before the lesson, the students don't need to see her disappear in the shadows, she does this before they even come.

Did she decide to time travel right outside the classroom door to go to another lesson? And it happens all the other times too, when Ron mentions it, but this is the most prominent one, and it's been bugging me for years! She can't just disappear, she needs to go to an empty cassroom, or a bathroom, or at least turn a corner, instead of disappearing from right next to her besties! Right? Hermione's first lesson should be with her best friends (who will notice any susicious behaviour) and then *after* the class find a place to discreetly use the Time Turner to go to the lesson Harry and Ron aren't taking. It's either a plothole or Hermione is NOT the brightest witch of her age afterall, and wasn't caught because Harry is the least perceptive person ever.
