Description:
Outwitting The Devil - The Secret to Freedom and Success, is a non-fiction work produced right after Think and Grow Rich, for those who were still failing after following all of its steps. Written as an imagined interview between Hill (Mr. Earthbound) and the Devil (invisible force, literal figure or dark inner self) he evaluates the greatest obstacles that humans face to attain their personal goals and how Satan ends up getting the better of the population through his manipulations.
Throughout this engaging Q and A interrogation, Hill reveals the Devil encourages us to be drifters from childhood, using the societal structures in place to reprogram individual thought into a robotic reaction to life’s journey. Critiquing the school and church, parents and educators alike, as rewarding uniform behaviour instead of nurturing individuality and innovation. He exposes along the way, not only are we corrupted through institutions and indoctrination, but also by substances encouraged by them like drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and fast food. However, we have always had the power to choose whether to conduct our lives from a vibration of fear or from faith and by choosing to follow your inner voice
ultimately brings with it mental, physical and spiritual freedom of purpose.
Though now an established self-help classic, after Hill’s death in 1970, the manuscript was passed on to his wife Annie Lou who refused its publishing due to the devil content. After her passing, it was given to her nephew and Foundation President, whose wife shared Annie Lou’s sentiment on banning it from public consumption. Finally, Don Green, the CEO of NHF asked for it to be edited by Sharon Lechter. Despite being completed in 1938, it was only released to the market by Sterling Publishing in 2011.
About the Author:
Oliver Napoleon Hill was born on October 26, 1883 in the town of Pound, Virginia. Though he was seen by some as a controversial conman in both his and future times, he was among the first pioneers of self-help and of one of the greatest self-help books of all time.
In 1908, the legendary exchange with Andrew Carnegie apparently occured. Exclaiming this was the turning point of his life, Hill was challenged by Andrew to interview wealthy people to unearth the formula for success. In 1915, he established the George Washington Institute of Advertising, intending to teach these principles of success. By 1925, Hill released his first work of eight volumes, The Law of Success. Another decade later, his bestselling book Think and Grow Rich was publicised, selling 20 million copies over the next 50 years.
From 1952 to 1962, Hill taught his Philosophy of Personal Achievement with W. Clement Stone. They then co-authored Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude, which was featured in John C. Maxwell's A Lifetime "Must Read" Books List. Hill emphasised that overcoming societal issues such as racism, war, poverty and failure using his philosophy of achievement was every human being’s responsibility.
Napoleon Hill passed away on November 8th 1970, reaching a wealth of a million dollars, and an inspiration to the New Thought Philosophy Movement.
