Jamie is one of my favorite characters in ASOIAF. He’s a massive knob. And he turns into a massive knob with a conscious.

It’s pretty incredible how much one can hate or dislike a character and then how redeemable they can be if written right

Jaime was one of my favorite characters for what he brings to the story as you describe. He went from attempting to kill children to... well you can't really attempt to "un-kill" children! haha. Jaime is an extremely flawed character, but that's what I liked. The overall ending of GOT was way too "everyone wins". Jaime lost his champion-ness when he had his hand cut off, but then he started fighting for the right things. He fought to save his daughter and to defend his friends, rather than for glory and to make himself look good. He lost his pride, but gained humbleness and justice. It's a shame how he went out, but he fell victim to the thing most humans do, which is love.

I have only seen the show..I have not read any of the books. I think the character learned from his mistakes and grew more humble. He was never really the same after he lost his hand. There was hope for him to become good. I really wanted to see his sister/girlfriend Cersei get hers though..I felt robbed that I didn't get to see her die a slow and agonizing death. Respect and Love to Lena Headley, she played that character so well. I do wonder if Jaime Lannister is more developed in the book..they usually are.

Kinda sorta. In book 4 he burns Cerseis letter, which is a bold move on his part, and he's not in book 5 (along w Tyrion & etc!

Never warmed to the character. Im sure there's room for redemption but if I don't care for the character than what's the point. An anti hero then? Then what does that make Jaime's brother Tyrion, who's a total outcast, and a hideous dwarf with different color eyes?!

I personally don’t categorize Jaime as an anti-hero. But I could see you argue for that at a point after he’s lost his hand. I just don’t feel that he does enough good actions even with bad motivations to be classified as that. I’m not sure how I’d classify Tyrion right away either. I’d have to think about that and get back to you. Though in many ways I think he fits the anti-hero spot way better than Jaime.

@@FantasyFictionFanatics Tyrion goes through more. By book 3 of the GoT series (my favorite book of all time! Up there with The Two Towers!) well, he goes through it, what with confronting Tywin and very much having to finish him off. So he goes through the wringer..like Hamlet he's very much corrupted by the world he lives in, and being a decent percent he's drunk for the rest of the series, while Varys helps his escape. I like Tyrion a lot. Jaime by contrast is very attractive, and very renowned for his fighting prowess, but God I just LOVE Tyrion. At least until he kills his father! (Jaime is kind of complicit in this, in that he leaves Tyrion to do what he will. Also Tyrion has a falling out with his brother concerning Tysha, and justifyingly so.. So yeah, Jaimes not as callous a character as Tywin (who could be the worst father in the world!) but I just do not like him. At all. Just the lie he told Tyrion about Tysha comes off as the worst thing done by ANYONE: the girl truly loved Tyrion, she wasn't a whore after all, and Jaime has a LOT to answer for. There's just not much worth saving there.
