I don’t think the foot was really bothering him. It’s probably more about him not fully trusting his receivers yet. He was throwing into tight coverage, but he did his job by putting the ball where his receivers could make a play and avoiding turnovers. Plus, we have to remember he hadn’t played a game since last December, so that might explain him being a bit rusty. That said, I’m not too worried. I trust the coaching staff to help get Herbert back into his groove and tweak the offense. After halftime, he definitely looked more comfortable on the field. With the new coaching staff, I’m sure Herbert will find success this season, so there’s no reason to stress right now.

This victory Monday is especially sweet first because we beat the Raiders at home and second because as a long time Chargers fan it is so good to know we are in the best hands with coach Harbaugh, Jessie Minter and it’s clear that the whole team is on the same page and they are hungry to win. Absolutely beautiful and I am confident we will do very well this season ! Bolt up !!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Go back and watch about halfway thru the 3rd, you can physically see he calm down and relax and be more comfortable in the pocket... remember he got no preseason snaps, this was his first game to break the rust off since last November... I don't think his foot is bothering him at all... I've had planter facia once you warm it up the pain starts to fade especially with adrenaline... and he has waaaay better doctors than I do lol

It’s the first game Mike. Herbert never got live reps in the offseason in a new offense so this is to be expected. You also need to keep in mind that this is a whole new philosophy on the offensive side so don’t expect Herbert to be throwing 30 to 40 times in a game.

One thing to keep in mind - Ben Herbert the conditioning coach said that his goal is to make the players harder to break - in other words, prevent soft tissue injuries. And the proof that he is making a difference can be found in the week 1 injury report before the game - basically almost none. And the result is that we had Bosa, Khalil, Tua and James all healthy at the same time, as well as Denzel Perryman.

I think Herbert’s foot is fine too. The offensive line was not blocking well in the beginning of the game and the simulated and actual pressure was causing some of the awkwardness we saw from his game. I trust in Herbert’s ability to make improvements in the next game. Defense looked amazing especially Ford, Bosa and Mack. Major props to the entire defense. Great video as always! 👏🏾

Look for the next couple games to be some confidence booster games for the Chargers - especially the one against Carolina. Vegas definitely has a TOUGH defense. We can’t downplay the fact that they have significantly improved from a season ago, In particular their D line. I think you can expect this next game in Carolina to be a big confidence booster for the offense. I wouldn’t be surprised if Harbaugh and G Ro actually aired the ball out more. Carolina just got 47 put up on them where Carr had 3 TDs. Look for Palmer and QJ to have BIG numbers that game. I think we’ll be “mindful” of our approach on the run game, I think we saw that on defense in particular where Bosa and Mack were able to come out , because of our depth at edge rush and I think they’ll do the same for Gus and JK. Week by week, you’ll see this team get more confident and more consistent. By week 4 against the Chiefs, I think we’ll be really CHARGED UP. ⚡️

Great take... thanks!......The huge change is that it seems like the Chargers are not going to depend on Justin Hero to bail them out.... and that will help keep him healthy....In this game, Harbaugh saw that the Raiders D was getting gassed and he just kept running it at them, and with tempo ... that was just good coaching.... and the Chargers D was lights-out, as Coach Harbaugh said.

MLB Unit!!! Just 1 miss tackle with a few TFL behind the scrimmage and keeping runners in front to make stops. They gave rest of players an easier time to make plays keeping the downs more situational in favor of Defense. There were hardly and 3rd and short or worst what we used to in past of 2nd and short dozens in a quarter. The unit went unchecked of applauding, just look at game film and it was the MLBs that kept other downs manageable to make plays over just a stop. We've been missing this tempo for decades with exception of DPerriman when drafted and he is back, silently being the key guys on Defense this year.

I think Herbert had a good game. It wasn't flashy but we're finally getting to see him with a solid supporting cast. He won't be superman every game and we can win. I think the foot is fine and it was more of just the Raiders d line being good. He played true to what he's good at in taking care of the ball and not turning it over. Week 2 is a good chance to get the passing game right.
@jameslemont8121

I think the issue was the intiorior pressure got to Herbert and even as things got better in the second quarter, he was still worried about getting sacked so kept throwing the ball early or locking onto reads. In the second half, he was able to reset himself and with better pass protection make good reads and deliver good calls. Not to mention the raiders defense is very good

The best part about this game, was how wrong I was. I was ready to abandon the run after 20 tries and like 50 yards. few in any first downs at all. I started to doubt the DC, but then just kept quiet and trusted in this coaching staff. They were right of course. Patience was needed, half time adjustments, and for the Faders to act a little winded, Maxx. Ive trusted this coach since my instincts told me too after a month of watching and listening to him intently, with my radar on full blast. I couldnt believe I trusted him. I never believed that quota hire black guy or Stayley could take us anywhere in the playoffs. Thank GOD Spanos decided to love victory more than his money finally, and hire on MERIT and RESULTS

Yeah I was scared in the first half I could even Justin Herbert didn’t have a comfortable look on his face when trying to throw the ball we have become so used to having a Keenan Allen type player were those third and seven plays clutch first down catches. I wasn’t impressed with our passing game. I’m not gonna lie. I’m glad we won, but there may come a time when we have to throw the ball. I didn’t see no deep threat receivers just a bunch of tight ends all in with each other, jumping off sides and shit. we need a veteran present still in the wire receiver room nobody stepped up and QK still seems soft to me . we should be OK with Carolina this week in fact I’m going to the game from California with my son but we have to be ready when we go to the following week. That’s just my two cents.

Herbert was getting pressure up the middle the first half…. He couldn’t step into the pocket to deliver throws properly or on time. He only missed the TE open in the middle of the field on a 3rd down. The rest of the passes hit receivers in the hands and should have been caught.
