these are also good for lto that needs to charge up to 15.5 since these psu go up to 30v i believe or 50v, only downside is that most of these only go up to about 10 amps for a reasonably priced one, but benefit is that you can use them on all sorts of projects for power. So just keep that in mind that it wont charge a big bank very quickly but then again if you got a big bank its probably a show vehicle and sits for long periods so plenty of time to juice the battery.

Hey bro, I scored a bunch of PLS-12450E LiFePO4 12v45aH batteries dirt cheap, all good, but max discharge says 25amps on data sheet, is there a way to bypass the BMS unit so it doesn’t limit discharge rate? It also has a battery capacity gauge I’d like to keep but honestly it doesn’t really matter if it gets in the way of bypassing discharge rate, I want to use them for my trunk battery bank, I got about 5. Would just cutting the BMS out of the circuit and having the leads inside connect directly to leads on outside of case be what needs to be done? I have a lab power supply to charge them, and from there they’d go right in trunk whited in parallel for that 12v(actually about 14.6v) 45aHx5 power 🤤 lmk, thx and great vid, charging them now @14.6 / 3a 🤟🏻

It isn't recommended by the manufacturer that manufacturers the lithium battery to use a bench power supply to charge a lithium battery because it can damage a lithium battery and can potentially cause a fire so therefore you should charge a lithium battery with a bench power supply at your own risk you might not have problems when doing it the first time but you will run into problems if you charge a lithium battery with a bench power supply all the time so therefore you should consider using a battery charger because the manufacturer recommends that you use a battery charger and the manufacturer would say that a power supply is not a battery charger

A power supply is a battery charger, the charging requirements for lithium is generally constant voltage/constant amperage to a set voltage, which is exactly what the power supply does. It is doing absolutely nothing different to a "battery charger" which also ends at a set voltage.

The amperage is whats important to pay attention to when charging lithium battery. As long as ya charge them really slow (low amperage) and keep an eye on the voltage and not over charge them its ok. Even for lead acid batteries thats the case.

i never leave a battery on any type of charger for long period of time or unattended , all electronics can fail and if something goes wrong this is not something you want to risk . im not a fan of battery tenders or maintainers that people leave on batteries for longer periods of time . people use them when they have cars in storage typically in the winter . IMO the battery should instead be disconnected and kept in a warm area , if you want to keep it tip top shape then use a maintainer for short periods of time while stored in warm area , even if its not cold and storing a car for a longer period the battery should be disconnected , the low amp draws over a long time are bad for the battery period , disconnecting it and keeping it maintained is far better for it . hope this helps

Hookup a high wattage low resistance power resistor or even an incandescent light bulb rated for the voltage, in series with the power supply lead. When the current on the resistor, or the light bulb, drops to near zero the bulb will no longer be illuminated, remove it and hookup your charger. What is happening is the capacitance of the power supply is being charged up very quickly by the battery and lots of current is flowing in the wires which blows out the fuse.

Watching you try to keep turning the current up, higher and higher @3:20, shows us that you don't fully understand how charging batteries works. For that SOC, you are already at the max current. You'll notice your voltage also jumps up to the max of 14.6. Now, if this was a dead battery, THEN you'd be able to put more current into it. It all boils down to voltage difference and internal resistance. You DO seems to understand internal resistance, though, because that's what makes thew current drop off to nothing as it nears the end of charge... and you mentioned it here.

Yea , that limits you so you dont overcharge. Say you set it higher so you can bump the amperage up you run the risk of overcharging. These LTO cells in this configuration can take 16.8v , but a 4s headway bank is 14.6v max , so it also depends what your battery is and what you charge to . The reason I have people limit at max voltage is you shouldn't need to charge at max , only to alternator voltage, and then you dont run to max voltage. I prefer to not even get close to max voltage, 14.2v is enough for headways , if you charge 14.2v or higher you probably should do something other than headway .
