Does anyone know why Ramon gave up boxing when he was on the cusp of world title fights? All I know about him is that he was associated with some gangland figures.

I think he had an accident in the surf in Sydney which forced his retirement.

He retired at 22 due to an injury to his shoulder. The surfing accident was what the media was told but it wasn't the cause of the damaged shoulder. I've known him all all my life but I suppose I was considered a bit too young to hear the real story. He won't tell me what happened. His nephews are my cousin's, my uncle was his brother and none of them would tell me either. There are a few people still alive who know the facts. He was a big loss to Australian boxing - good judges called him the second Les Darcy, not the best "since Darcy". He had a reputation for demolishing his opponents, most didn't fight again but he made his fortune in the demolition business, high rises and did very well before retiring to the farm.

@@davidstone2549 👍. Thanks for the info. It was a long time ago and my memory is not what it was. But he was a very good fighter, that i do remember, extremely hard to get on top of and defeat. When i first saw him was memorised by his size and physique. Thanks again for the update. 😀
