They're trying to rewrite reality, confuse, scare and anger people, and be able to claim whatever they want. I've heard on multiple shows now that the '88 Olympics loss lead to the Dream Team in '92. When before pros simply weren't allowed in the Olympics. The most Olympics and World Cups(pros allowed) in the 70's and 80's went to the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia and no Dream Team ever. The simple fact that the Olympics started allowing pros in '92 led to the Dream Team, otherwise they would have gone to the '90 World Cup after losing in '88 or one of the others from '70 to '90 when they kept losing to the Soviets and Yugoslavians.

Chuck is my favorite, but I can't believe he’s backtracking on what he said just a few days ago. - Didn’t he say that next year would be his last year? He was live with other presenters like Grant Hill and was nearly in tears.....?? - Didn’t he also say that he wouldn’t work for any other channels? - If he genuinely wanted to work for just another year, as he claimed, then he’s the one violating the 10-year, £210 million contract and should be liable for the penalties. What’s going on with him, seriously?
@dmichael100
2 ай бұрын
This is Chuck. He makes the big pronouncements - claims too much, and then it either turns out not to be true or he backtracks. Everybody seems to like him "because he' s so honest" and he is hardly ever called on it. I like Charles as a personality, loved him as a player. If I were going to pick one basketball media personality to spend the day with, it would be Charles. But frankly, the fact that he is so immensely popular says more about the appetite of sports fans than anything else. He is not going to give you a cogent breakdown of a team or player and he constantly makes these wild predictions or SIMPLISITC analysis(which insults the word 'analysis') that are often proven in accurate. But people seemed to love the simplistic, bombastic, no substance basketball talk. The one thing you hear about Charles Barkley more than anything else is: "Well, he's Charles so he can get away with it."

The true problem is the linear TV model is dead. No one wants to tune in for appointment viewing on any nonsporting event anymore networks such as TNT can’t really invest huge money in the NBA because they don’t see the ratings on their other shows. That’s why they used to do it in the past they use promote their other programming Amazon can afford to do it because they want you in the Eco system. It’s like when Costco offers you a five dollar rotisserie chicken. They take a loss on it but they want you in the store to buy other things.
@dmichael100

Yes, these networks that are paying something like $2 billion apiece for PART of the NBA inventory have to be doing it on the basis of some other financial calculations than ratings (which have been dropping for some time). There must be some other long term financial strategy involved. Otherwise it makes no sense economically. Its likely a huge risk (11years!) at any rate. Whatever one thinks of Adam Silver, the fact that he got $7 billion in television rights for the NBA will cover a lot of other sins. The owners will love him for that.
