Now, that is true artist. He takes a tecnique and uses it in a way to convey his personal vision...not just copying how this ancient method was used in the past. Amazing!

I had the honor of living in the same town. My Mom worked next to Charlie at the community college. Our family owns a number of his works. Funny story - when my parents gave my brother-in-law a Charlie Beck Loon carving (the Loon is the MN state bird)...my brother-in-law asked, "is this a Beck?" My parents said, "yes, it is." Quickly, my young nephew said, "Dad, isn't that a Loon?"
