#12 from 'Échos religieux de Bretagne' (Mouez dudiuz kantikou Breiz-Izel)
--------------------------------------
Phillip Sear plays a piece from a collection with a Breton title literally translating as 'The sweet voice of the songs of Lower Brittany' from 1906 by the French (Breton) composer and organist Charles-René Collin (1827-1911).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Collin was born (and died) in Saint-Brieuc, and studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Lefébure-Wély. He was organist at St-Brieuc Cathedral from 1845 to 1909, and his son, Charles-Augustin, was organist of Rennes Cathedral from 1884-1935-so between them, father and son held titulaire posts at major Breton cathedrals for 90 unbroken years! Charles-Augustin studied at the École Niedermeyer in Paris, where he worked with Gigout and Franck.
This collection comprises harmonium adaptations (which I play on piano) from collections of Breton songs which the composer had made.
