I can imagine finding work when your homeless at his age. It's hard enough to find a job at his age when you have a home. I got lucky and got a job as a custodian at a local elementary school. I used to be a machinist also. I sooo sympothize with this guy.

orangejuiceangelaa - I realize I'm replying to a comment that's 8 years old but I want to answer the question in case someone else wants to know. Why does homelessness hinder securing employment? 1) Depending on location, you need transportation to get to an employment or temp agency, or to an area where you can walk in and fill out an application. Transportation requires $$$; 2) Before you go to an agency or potential place of employment you should look and smell presentable which requires a shower, shave and haircut (men), clean and neat clothing (without tears or holes), plus additional grooming like trimmed fingernails. Hard to always look presentable when you're homeless!; 3) A potential employer needs to be able to contact you for an interview or to tell you you've been hired. Homeless people can't afford cell phones; 4) If a person is homeless, a potential employer might be afraid the person could be late (no alarm clock without electricity or a cell phone), or that they'll miss more work than a housed person due to illness, transportation issues, or fatigue caused by hunger or lack of sleep; 5) Most employers require their employees to have a Drivers License or State issued ID. A large percentage of homeless people do not have either one because they've been lost or stolen. It's hard to get them replaced without the right documents, and even then replacements are not cheap ($25-30); 6) Disability; 7) Untreated Mental Illness; 8) Do I really need to list any more reasons why it's hard for a homeless person to find a job...??? I KNOW I WENT WAY OVERBOARD ON THIS EXPLANATION... but I've seen this question asked over and over again, and to me it's plain ole common sense. The vast majority of the homeless population doesn't have 95% of the things in their possession that you and I take for granted every day. For one thing, they couldn't carry half of what we may consider our daily essentials in addition to their bedding and every stitch of clothing they own! SO... If anyone made it to the end of this, I honestly hope you will help me spell this out to close-minded folks in the comments section of other videos when they ask the same Godforsaken question "Why is it hard to find a job when you're homeless?". Feel free to copy part or all of my explanation and put your spin on it! If speaking up for a few homeless people is all WE can do to help them today, then it's better than doing nothing at all, right? (FINALLY Steps Off Her Soapbox...) 🤗🤗🤗

Combinations his age (lot of companies avoid hiring “older” workers) not having close for interviews, not having a place to wash and dry and safely store them if they have them, not having a place to shower before an interview (especially if said interview is in the morning), if you don’t have a car then you have to worry about getting to the interview on time, etc, etc

If you support minimum wage laws you are contributing to this man's problem.
