I haven't seen the movie yet. Did the producers really use this clip in "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood" somewhere?

From what I understand all the radio bits used was from a Don Steel 93KHJ broadcast, mostly from just 1 as far as I can tell. There is also a radio contest from Batman and Robin that was featured on KHJ played over the credits. Of course plenty of other songs are just played on their own as well as tons of background sounds from shows like Manix.

I spent every summer at my cousin's place off Highland in Hollywood 66-70. Listened to KHJ in his totally boss '64 Mustang. Charley Tuna moved to sister Station KFRC in San Francisco where he did morning drive. Loved the guy.

It was a real art to handle all that was required in that rapid fire world of top 40 radio. I grew up there and was a teenager those years. An incredible time to be alive and to think I was part of it along with Boss Radio 93 KHJ.

This is the type radio I miss! I miss the jingles, the "Tuna" the "Steele" and the music! Promotional ads for the radio stations too! I would listen to radio again if we went back to this instead of the cookie-cutter radio you hear on the air.

Charlie Tuna was syndicated on AFN RADIO on Berlin during my tour from ' 73- ' 76. He remains my favorite dj of all time. I later became a dj and newsman in Boston. Long live his voice.

Charlie was in my top 5 deejays: people thought Drake was no talk/no personality, but Charlie was so clever, so funny, so topical, just using the ramps up to the vocals or backselling. He made KHJ work, like Dan Ingram made WABC brilliant. A+

I remember him, and the station very well! They played localized hits as well, such as Shango's hit, "Day after day" from 1969, we had very heavy rains in early 1969. Stuart Margolin, ( Angel) from the Rockford Files was the main singer in that group!!

Didn't grow up in LA, but we had a Drake Top 40 in NYC, WOR-FM. It leaned more Adult Top 40 since OR-FM featured a generous dose of 50s and 60s oldies. It played currents right along with the oldies. Liked OR-FM better than WABC.

In San Diego you would have been listening to either "the Q" 11-7 KCBQ (1170) or 1-36 KGB (1360) which must have been related to KHJ because it was also "Boss Radio".
