@camaleonicas Not a Latin mom but I am a mom who believes the same. Starting in 5th/6th grade we sat our daughter down and explained she would get two free passes a year for us to bring a forgotten item to school, by 8th grade it was one year. We prepared it this would be the way. Despite her having the free passes she never called. She knew we were the type of parents to stick to what we say.

That kid is so entitled. Charlotte should have told them they're 13, not 3, and shouldn't expect people to always rescue them from their responsabilities. She should have given Rock two choices: one, try to negotiate a new presentation date with teacher OR two, accept the fact they will get a poor grade on this project and then work harder for the next projects they have on that semester.

*“I have run to that school a million times.”* Well first, when you were doing that you were a SAHM not a busy successful lawyer. Second, you wouldn’t have to go to the school a million times if you taught your spoiled, ungrateful kids that they have to face the consequences if they keep forgetting their school stuff.

So a stay at home mom isn't busy or successful? Her kids are happy, so is her husband, house has been in order, and now she's going back to work for herself. Sounds successful and busy to me. Kids forget things all the time, spoiled or not.
@LX-kt90rx

I kind of get the point you were TRYING to make, but disparaging stay at home moms to make that point is not the move. Moms are not the only ones who stay at home, there are SAHD’s, too. And, especially when you have small children, staying at home is like 3 or 4 FT time jobs at once. There are a LOT of parents who go to work BECAUSE staying home is more work than a 9-5 job. In this scenario, two things are true. The kid should learn responsibility, especially at their age, AND Harry should step up because he said he would.
@oscar17891
7 ай бұрын
@@LX-kt90rx stating a fact is not disparaging. If you're home doing all the sorts of jobs that a home requires, you can postpone something and go out to do what's necessary. Working at almost any place on the other hand allows you to go out only for REAL emergencies.
@LX-kt90rx

@@oscar17891 it’s not a fact, though. It’s an opinion. Not everyone’s stay at home experience is the same. Some are caregivers to elderly parents or grandparents, some have children with special needs who require a lot of therapies, some have very small children who are babies or preschoolers. Just because someone stays home, that doesn’t mean they have nothing going on and nothing on their schedule (like appointments). The only “fact” here is that Harry said he would step up, so he should, and Rock needs to be more responsible.

The point here is not that the kid should be more responsible. The point is that if the parents policy is to bring things to the kid, and if the parents explicitly AGREED that the father would pick up the slack in such situations, then the father has to understand that he actually has to follow through. Most working men truly do not understand what it means to be a hands on parent. I think they made the point very well.
@oscar17891

a hands on parent runs to school only if the kid is in a life-threatening situation. The point they made is that they are both spineless individuals who let their daughters run their life, ruining in the process all hope that these kids will be able to face life when they grow up
@walqqr1

the kid should definetely be more responsible. forgetting stuff happens, but then the kid should either try to negotiate with the teacher for a new presentation date OR just face the consequence of a poor grade and work harder on the next ones. the kid is 13, not 3, and they will never learn to be responsible if their parents keep rescueing them all the time.

@@walqqr1 Students don’t “negotiate” with teachers. That is disrespectful. They are not on equal footing. The teacher is the authority figure running the class. Parents who teach their children to try this are creating monsters. The student can apologize to the teacher and ask nicely if there’s any way they can turn it in late. The teacher may offer to allow it, but with reduced credit. The student needs to learn that their turning an assignment in late is unfair to the other students who turned it in on time.
