As we walk the gas lamp-lit streets, past horse-drawn carriages and the antebellum architecture, you just might think you've traveled back in time. But just because this South Carolina city is proud to celebrate its heritage doesn't mean it's stuck in the past. Charleston boasts innovative restaurants, interesting shops, contemporary art galleries and the world-class festivals. This is the place to experience the genteel South - after all, it was the home of suave "Gone with the Wind" character, Rhett Butler. History pervades almost every aspect of the Holy City, from the majestic homes-turned-museums to the landmarks that promote the city's role in United States history. Civil War buffs should head to Fort Sumter, where the first shot of the War between the States was fired. Meanwhile, shopaholics looking for locally made goods should peruse the Charleston City Market. Come along on this special edition of Mark's Delicious Adventures and let me show you the southern charm of Charleston.
ABOUT MARK JACOBSON: I started working for a tour company in St. Paul, MN back in 1984 at the ripe old age of 23. Since then, I've had the good fortune to lead many tours throughout the United States, Canada and abroad during my over 35+ years in the travel industry.
I also love to cook and have a love for good food. I was surrounded by home-cooked food and fresh garden vegetables growing up on my family farm in North Dakota. My interest in food and cooking definitely come from my mother. I was always in the kitchen with my Mom, and was learning to cook at a very young age, without even realizing it.
Later in life, I enrolled in culinary school, because I wanted to combine my love for food with my love for travel.
These days, I continue to work in the travel industry as a tour guide specializing in food-focused tours. I work hard to exceed my clients expectations. People remember some of the information you give them as a tour guide but, most of all, they remember how you made them feel.
I want everyone to end their tour with a big smile on their face!
Happy travels and bon appetit!
