I enjoyed this. Mark answered a question that I have asked people for years and have never gotten and answer to and that is that is about the level of the ridges. I hope to be able to talk to Mark about this when we go see this site. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it very much!

The park needs to step their game up.. Just visited and yes the mounds and the site itself was awesome, but the huge lack of information and excitement was a bummer. Its like they dont want you to know anything other than about arrow heads and fishing weights. Like COME ON this was the first city in Amerca show it off people!

Cooking balls can be heated to cook food and there could be a single source. No smoke cooking! Also my brother lives in middle tenn. On roaring river. The bluff at 100+ft are called copper bluff. You can see where copper ore was mined by native peoples. Copper pots were recovered nearby at a non commission dig site in the early 80s

Maybe they were building levees
@ChasingHistory
9 ай бұрын
possibly, but the natural wetlands were still intact during this era. wetlands absorb floods, so i doubt they had the major flooding issues we have today. also, they were up on a natural bluff so for the most part out of the flood plain .... of course this is speculation... but levees is a good thought, thank you for sharing!

You think they only lived on the food that grew wild? No. They grew some food. Yes they hunted and fished. But they could not have lived without some crops. Corn, squash, beans. I wish they would stop telling the Hunter gatherer tale just because they think it was so amazing. Be realistic. If they had time to build these complex structures, then they knew how to grow food. And they had time.

Mark Brink was awesome. Excellent interview Chase. Poverty Point culture is one of my favorites, and I’m an avid collector of their relics. I found a piece of galena, today. That was a first. Poverty Point objects never get old. I’m in Louisiana, but some of my collection is from the Claiborne site, in Mississippi.

I been to a couple of mounds and I live minutes from Miamisburg Mound. A few weeks ago, I went to Hopewell and took a guided tour. The tour guide said that those aren’t burial mounds, but the guide from this video said it is. I went Cahokia Mounds and they did find burials and they claimed to be the tallest north of Mexico.
