Love the content, Thanks Lisa. I live in Australia and next month we will be doing our HSC (- similar to VCE). More videos like this would help heaps! 😆

Hey great video! So since she mentioned she wanted to become a doctor, is she studying medicine. Should one do physics for medicine even though the prerequisite is chemistry/physics, would doing physics be of any benefit when it comes to applying for med schools?

This was so insightful! My follow up question is: how do you find the right course at university if you're not sure what career you want to take? And (i know this is a very generalised question), but what are the odds of achieving a 95+ atar if you can't afford any tutors?

Hi! I'm currently studying a Bachelor of Science with a concurrent languages diploma, and I don't even really know what I want to do for a career yet. My advice would be to follow something that interests you and that you're curious about - do what you enjoy. From my experience, the job you end up in might not even be directly related to your tertiary studies, so you might as well study something you love, because you really never know what the future will bring. Be open to opportunities! As for your question about the ATAR, remember that it stands for Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking - the 'Ranking' is the key part. The ATAR is a relative score, which means it's your performance compared to the performance of other students. To give you the odds on scoring over 95, you'd need to know exactly how that other 95% of students was performing, and that's just not possible. The best thing to take away from that is that all you can do is your best. Tutors can be helpful for bringing out your best, but so can support from your teachers, classmates, parents etc. and a healthy, disciplined work ethic - which is free! Smart study habits alone will get you a long way, and there's a lot of free advice out there on the internet. I wish you the very best with your studies!

This is a very insightful and great video, although it's a shame that I'm only watching it a day before the English exam right at the end of this marathon :') It is definitely important to nuture your mental health though during these times and I find that yoga really does help as well as rewarding yourself with something after you've reached a study goal. For example, going for a walk down to the beach to clear your mind or even watching some Netflix for an hour after doing 2-3 hours of consecutive study, and then to hop back into it with another subject to keep yourself interested.

I’m in year 8 currently and I study really hard to get good marks and all that but that also takes. Away my fun time. Some of my older friends tell me to just enjoy life before VCE but some says study hard it will pay off in VCE . I have no idea what to do 😭

Hi! Thanks for your comment :) My answer to your question is that both of your friend groups are sort of right. Your older friends are correct in saying that high school before VCE can be a time to have fun and try new things. However, having a good work ethic and being able to apply yourself is also a good thing. The tricky part is finding the balance between the two. As you're only in year 8, I would say that studying hard for good grades is commendable, but not the biggest priority in the world. There's a lot less weighing on academic performance in Year 8 than there is when you get older, so it's a good time to try new hobbies and figure out what you're interested in. The other thing I want to add is that VCE is not the biggest thing you will ever do in life. There is life after school, and although VCE can seem daunting, it truly isn't the end of the world, no matter how scary people like to make it seem. Good luck with your studies! :)

I'm in year 11 this year and even though this comment is late maybe my comment could help?... or it's totally useless and I apologise for that. It's really good to have the ambition to study and get good marks but DEFINITELY make time for fun like playing your favourite sport at least? I was extremely worried about starting VCE but a good thing to keep in mind is to pick the subjects you like, not what your friends are doing. You're more likely to do well in subjects you love because you'll be motivated to do them even if at points they become hard. Surprisingly though, I personally feel like VCE is easier homework wise in the way that there's more structure and you can plan ahead (also the content for me is easy cause I chose subjects I like). Though I find it easier, it does require more time at home to just get the homework done. So basically, enjoy time with friends and keep the mindset of working hard because it should pay off in VCE but don't worry yourself about it when you do finally start it. Your end score doesn't define you. If you have a dream career or plan then focus on that and see the score as a few steps towards the destination you want.

Hi! First of all, I'm sorry that you're feeling that way, and I'm glad you liked the video. VCE can be (for a lack of a better expression) a really crappy time. Standardised testing in general has a whole host of issues in terms of how it can negatively affect students - here's an interesting article about it: theconversation.com/support-for-standardised-tests-boils-down-to-beliefs-about-who-benefits-from-it-86541. There's that old example of how if you test a fish on its ability to climb a tree you'll find it lacking, but if you tested a monkey in the same way it would excel. Likewise, if you tested a fish on its ability to swim it would excel, but a monkey would do dreadfully. Different people excel in different environments, so finding the environment you excel in is a big part of being successful and happy in life. I don't know about your personal situation, but sometimes support isn't apparent until you search for it, whether it's from your school, your parents or your friends. Don't be scared to ask for help when you need it, and remember that Year 12 truly isn't the end of the world. I'm sorry I can't offer you anything more specific, but I wish you all the best with your studies and hope your year improves :)

It isn’t required for you to do physics in year 10 to be able to get into VCE physics. I would say to give it a try and see if you like it! Year 11 is the time to drop subjects and decide what you like and what you don’t
