This is the first section of the Chattahoochee off of Lake Lanier/Buford Dam. The water is typically crystal clear and very cold (sub 60 degrees year round). The water clarity was a little dirty from a lot of rain, and Lake Lanier is said to have started to turn over causing the water generation to be murky.
Although stocking for this section has ended (I believe), it is stocked nearly every week from the beginning of the season (spring sometimes) until August.
The float is only about 4 miles long, but if you stop to hit all the shoals it can be an all day event. If you just go with the flow anticipate approximately 2 miles per hour float rate.
