CHATTAI DHURA || CHITUWA & GIRLFRIEND
Chattaidhura is about 14 km from Darjeeling town on Sukhia-Mirik highway. A picturesque hamlet with rolling meadows.
Where the settlement ends, begins a thick forest of tall pine trees and thick groves of bamboo.
Just about the highway, after about a 5 min ascend stands a giant monolithic rock, popularly known as the GHUM ROCK.
The hike through the thick groove of pine trees itself is invigorating. The forest is home to a varied species of flora and founa.
As you enter the woods the sound of the ongoing traffic slowly gives was to the chipring of birds, and to a deafening silence.
As one hikes through the forest with the crackling sounds of the fallen trees leaves underneath, one is greeted by a jaw dropping monolith rock that stands like a Pyramid. Breathtaking, swasbuckling indeed!
When you get to the top of the rock, which is surprisingly flat, the view of the surrounding hills greets your sight with an overwhelming awesomeness.
From the rock point as you hike further, and after a short steep ascend a colonial era resting place ( Hawaghar) makes the toil so worthwhile.
Its a beautiful spot with a 360° view of the verdant hills around.
There is a beautiful cave which carries a grassy meadow on this head.
This is definitely the best hiking spot near Darjeeling town.
