Oh Rachel! I am not on Instagram! Praising the Lord with you that there were signs and your husband knew the signs and knew he needed to get to the ER asap. Thank you for sharing those reminders. Those are things we don't like to think about but are important. I will be praying for your husband's full recovery.

Yes--we are so grateful for how everything lined up--it would hardly be possible to get into care in less time from the onset of heart attack symptoms than he did. Thank you! I think I was maybe unjustly (naively?) expecting him to "bounce back" a little more instantaneously.

Oh Rachel. My husband suffered three heart attacks at 34 while referring soccer. He’s active. There was no reason and still isn’t to this day. That was about 5 years ago. If he needs someone to talk to that’s been through it all, please reach out. My husband suffered severe depression afterwards. Thankfully I’m in healthcare and knew the signs as well ❤

I'm glad that the Spanish phonics workbook will be helpful to other families as well--I just could not find a workbook type approach that worked incrementally through the syllable types...I am hopeful that this will allow us to really start building some confidence with reading in Spanish.

My super athlete brother had a heart attack at 39. Also walked himself in. Quadruple bypass happened. I'm so glad it all went as smoothly as something like that can. Fact remains that your whole family has some big emotional trauma. Sending you all the love this internet stranger can send. ❤ keep talking about it. It helps.

Eek, sounds like a scary health situation for your famiy! Researching spanish curriculums here.. i was looking at your video for beautiful mundo, and the saw videos for homeschool languages. Did you drop beautiful mundo and if so, could i ask why? It looks like it jumps aroud a lot in a lesson, but i like all the poetry and picture books! Thank you for your insight!
@SevenInAll

We used Beautiful Mundo a few years ago--I still have the picture books and I think I will likely cycle back to them at some point in the future (I didn't drop it, we finished it a while back). I think Beautiful Mundo can be a strong contender for families who have a strong background in Spanish and kids who understand Spanish but need to grow their skills, and who want a lot of literature in Spanish. Homeschool Languages is much more focused on teaching the language to beginners--so it really serve a different purpose. Our family is a little bit peculiar--we have done a lot of "immersion" style Spanish exposure since our children were born (hence using Beautiful Mundo a few years ago), but we realized that our boys' ability to speak Spanish themselves and confidence in speaking it was not nearly as strong as their ability to understand it. So I've gone back to the basics with using Homeschool Languages to play language games and get them actually USING the language themselves, and actually explicitly teaching/explaining concepts like verb conjugation, etc. instead of just trying to have them pick it up naturally from immersion.

How do you implement both Math with Confidence and Beast? Do you think beast academy is enough?
@SevenInAll
26 күн бұрын
"Enough" is not what I'm aiming for when I implement homeschool--so I don't want people to assume that a resource isn't "enough" just because I use more than one resource, if that makes sense? A "feast" of learning is more my aim. That being said--implementing MWC and BA has been pretty easy so far. At this point, with this specific kid, I'm doing very minimal explaining with the MWC lessons, just a quick 2 minute oral review and intro to the concept, and my son is taking off running with it doing the worksheets independently and quickly. I find MWC valuable because it is so reliable & steady, and has him review and practice things like reading clocks, measuring things, even and odd numbers, with small amounts of practice regularly so that he doesn't get rusty. Even if much of it feels "easy" to him, I still find it valuable as he's still solidifying these skills and memorizing conversions, etc. For BA, I more often need to sit with him while he works on a page and am talking him through some of tough problem solving--some is independent but he's not a strong enough reader and it's challenging enough that he can't do it fully independently. BA practice problems are significantly more challenging than any I have seen in other 2nd grade programs, and they are a great "stretching" experience for his brain. I think BA is great for strong problem-solving and math strategy, mental math type skills...but for those early math-related skills like measuring, reading clocks, how many days are in a week and how many hours in a day, etc....all those things that are covered very well in MWC, I haven't yet bumped into those types of things being covered in BA.

@@SevenInAll Yes, that makes sense. Beast is so different that I always doubt I'm doing enough. I'm not sure why I forgot but I did the feast with MWC 2 and TGTB 2. I'll have to review the table of contents for MWC 4.

I am so sorry, Rachel! I hope your husband is coping okay because it is a traumatic experience and it does shake up your outlook on life afterwards. The last time I went to ER was a few months ago, and my two kids were with me at the time when I noticed I had chest pain while driving! So I drove to the ER, and it was very hard managing and comforting two kids at the ER but the nurses were so kind to help hold the toddler and talked to my 6yo while I get the bloodwork, the ekg, etc done. Every day since I still worry about my health but every day I am grateful that I had that extra day with my kids. Thank you so much for doing this PSA and sharing your experience to all of us. ❤❤❤ Sending lots of love from this side of the world to yours. ❤❤❤
