I bought the groview projector from the link you provided for UK. The seller sent me instead the Topvision JQ818B. Are there any differences if you know? When checked prices the Topvision JQ818B costs 60 pounds less(75 dollars) which I found really dodgy. I think you better remove the link from your description as checked the comments on the amazon and other people got this model too.

Would love to see a price range around $500 - $800 USD comparison this would be a good quality TV of decent size but obviously not projector big but this is where most people spend when wanting a good TV before jumping up a serious price bracket. Your reviews are amazing and you have covered low price, next bracket up from low price, then higher end. I guess what is the best projector for a room with natural light some but not full sun for the lowest price point? the Nexigo pj40 looks great I just wonder how it holds up when adding another $200 to the competition options. I purchased the PJ40 and it came with two dead pixels right out of the box, it’s also concerning that a lot of people have updated their Amazon reviews after the screen starts to go orange and dead pixels start to pop up after 4 months or so. Seems like most of the 5 star reviews are based on out of the box impressions instead of after having it for a while and it seemingly not holding up. I’ll be returning mine and possibly replacing it to see if I get one without any defects out of the box. I do have concerns that it won’t last 6 months however

UK Buyers beware - Rob's links (which I'm sure were correct at time of writing) lead to product pages that MIGHT not be correct. I think some Amazon sellers engage in bait-and-switch! For example the Groview 818C link leads to a product with a long title, but no actual model number. When you read the description it look very similar. But the seller has stated in one of the Q&As that the actual product is the RD881 which is the other Groview that Rob spoke about. Just saying - exercise great caution! Seems like the most difficult thing here is sourcing one of Rob's recommendations, at least here in the UK! All of the products linked to are either sold out, not yet available (PJ40) or price is about 3 times the one mentioned here. I think that Amazon sellers AND the manufacturers really need to up their game in terms of buyer trust - it's not good!

What do you recommend in the $300-$500 range, going above this but not up to the short throw stuff you put in another piece. I am in need of doing a 120 inch screen at a Gamer Con. I figured out why the Groview is so bright. It compresses the whites and starts clipping pretty early. Same issue with the Happrun too. This video came in very handy as I was looking to replace my Acer H5380BD 720p projector, that I purchased for $397 back in the summer of 2015. The bulb was dying and the fan noise was loud, so my goal was to find a native 1080p unit at $300 or less, with less fan noise. This video helped me decide on the Groview 818C which arrived today- just set it up tonight. I'm pleased with it EXCEPT the fan noise is even louder than the old Acer! The projector sits only 4-5 feet from our heads, so it sounds REALLY loud, almost to the point where it's a dealbreaker and I'm thinking of returning it. But of all 11 units tested for this video, the 818C was the quietest at only 40.1 db... which means the 45-46 db ones must sound like vacuum cleaners! How did fan noise in projectors get even louder in the past 8 years?

Thank you for this kind of work; it's much needed. I'm interested in the Groview, but I don't know whether you tested the RD881 or the JQ881C. At the 1:27, 2:00, 3:07, and 4:03 marks in your video, you picture the RD881, which is listed on Amazon at $190. At the 4:52 mark and in the side-by-side test at the 6:01 mark, you list the Groview model as just "881C," which would be a reference to the JQ881C. At the 10:55 mark, you show the Groview JQ881C. Can you provide any clarification on this? I'd like to purchase the Groview JQ881C for $140, but I can't be sure that what you tested isn't the Groview RD881.

It really depends on your use case. The Epson is 6x brighter (3000 lumens vs 500), so it will of course do better in bright situations. However, if you wanted to use the projector in a darkened room the Epson would be pretty terrible due to its poor contrast and bad black levels.

Think about twenty years back... For a image like most of these projectors are produce, you had to pay thousands of bucks... And now? A simple single LCD like the yaber ace k1 - which I prefer - let you get a cinematic experience with really good contrast and colours for 300 bucks in every room of your home thanks to those keystone features. No bulp change anymore which let you no worry any more about following costs. Incredible, this technology is from measuring and calculating to get the best image evolved to real plug'n play. And sure, you also can spend thousands of bucks today's for your home cinema, but for me, I like these China projectors. Sure, I also got an Epson at home but in the night it's so dam bright for my tiered eyes. My gammabai VAST is so much more comfortable to watch at night. Personally I started to project for 5 years, and now I'm addicted to the big screen experience. 130 inch in my living room, 90 ich in my bedroom. I think i need one for my bathroom now, cause sometimes I take a longer seat there 💩 Greetings to all projector lovers 🖖

Projector lover here! I've been rocking my Sony HW40ES 1080P projector for many years on a 135" screen. For my main PC, I sit in front of an 8K 75" screen all day. I love that for work, but it is too small to watch movies/TV with! For me, giant screen + good 1080p is > 4K or 8K and HDR to the moon. I will eventually upgrade to a great 4K projector, but no rush.

@@stevetb7777 yeah, there are more like me outside 😅 Yes, my girlfriend cancelled our relationship so no I'm moving to another apartment. And for my broken heart, I will buy me a 4k projector also. And only a couch a small table and a giant giant screen in my new living room!!!! No more female limitations.... Only boys room😉

Hi there @thehookup you are reviews are great!! I was wondering how would Nexigo PJ40 do against BenQ TH575 or Optoma 146x. Basically, I am willing to go up to 500-600 USD. My room is pretty dark - there is very little light entering the room. Picture quality for a 106 inch screen is my most important criterion. i do not want a short-throw projector for sure. I have about 12 feet to throw a 106-inch image.

Hi! Could you compare HOPVISION JQ818A, TOPVISION JQ818B, and GROVIEW JQ818C? They are manufactured by the same parent company (as is Happrun), they also appear nearly identical (other than branding & model number); however, they have varying price points and conflicting reviews. I need help deciding whether or not to order hop/topvision (available on Canadian Amazon), or to ship the groview model from US Amazon. Your tests are excellently thorough, so I was hoping you could help figure out whether or not they all perform the same! :)

@KellyCollinsX I purchased the Hopvision JQ818A and the Groview JQ818C. Physically they’re identical other than the Groview logo. Brightness, fan noise, and resolution seem the same. The main difference is that the Groview JQ818C has an option for screen mirroring and can connect to wi-fi. Also, it has a digital zoom option in the video settings that gives flexibility in distance placement. The Hopvision/A had no zoom adjustment in the settings. I also noticed a slight difference in the default/standard color profile. To me the Hopvision had the color a bit too saturated and the tint skewed too red. The Groview/C default color seemed slightly more washed but probably more accurate. I got the Hopvision at a great deal with a 50% off coupon for only $56, and the Groview had a $20 off coupon which made it $119. I’m keeping the Groview/C because the zoom adjust is a must-have for me.

I want to use the projector for art and not movie projections. For art, I want to have a projected image on the canvas of less than 20". Most projections do not give such small projections. Does anyone know of a projector that will project smaller images (less than 20") on to the canvas?? Thanks

This was really interesting, but at least from this video, only the Epson produced a usable image on the nature film. All the LED models have no shadow details to the point that most of the time, a significant portion of the image looks completely black, even though the video is depicting birds and plants in sunlight. I wonder if this is due to the color profile you are using on your video export or if this was actually what the image looked like on the screen at the time of recording.

It's due mostly to cameras settings. In order to accurately portray the image of each projector I always use manual mode, but it's hard to choose settings that will work for projectors that range in brightness from 400 lumens to 3000 lumens. If I correctly expose the 400 lumen projectors the 3000 lumen projector will look completely blown out, but correctly exposing 3000 makes the 400 look darker than it does it person. I went somewhere in the middle, but in person your eyes adjust to the brightness you are watching. In my experience 350 ANSI lumens is the lower threshold for watching a 100" screen in a mostly dark room. That said, my main projector that I use every day is the AWOL LTV3500 which is 3000+ lumens and I love the ultra bright image.

Would any of these be usable for the occasional F1 race during the day under the porch and occasionally an outdoor movie night? Or would that be a terrible experience? Fan noise and energy draw is no concern for me.

Hello sir, excellent videos... very informative! Question: in Europe it seems not possible to get the Happrun products, but there is a brand called Topvision which look 100% similar if you look at the specs & exterior. Whats your guess on this.. or have you heard maybe some rumors about this coming from the same manufacturer?

They are produced by a factory in China called “Rigal Projectors”, so it is possible that Topvision is also contracting with Rigal to get the same projectors.

Epson CO-FH02 or Benq TH575? epson is 3lcd and benq is dlp. Im worried about dlp rainbow effect but im worried about epsons filter system for dust too. what do you recommend? I dont care about the non replaceable bulb because after 1-2 years i will upgrade and buy something better. (i will use the projector rarely but i need to know which one is better and why)

The TH575 is a better projector (brighter, less input lag, better color gamut, better black levels), but if you know you are especially sensitive to RBE then the epson might be a better choice. Personally, I'd go with the 575: amzn.to/3l8nc2A

Love your super in-depth, no non-sense projector comparisons! They are second to none. I am just beginning to explore projection decorating and purchased an entry level system running some cool AtmosFX projections. I’d like to expand the show using multiple windows in our Victorian home. I am looking to purchase several most-bang-for-the -buck projectors without having to take out a second mortgage. Have you done such a comparison of projection decoration projectors? I could see setting up maybe half a dozen window sized projections. The projectors would only be used for this purpose. Thank you for your time!
