Also noticed the tip of your Iron tip was dull. keep a damp sponge or get one of those copper pan scrubber's and wipe the tip across it to clean the tip. Also get a small tin of tinning paste and dip the tip in it the tip will last longer and your soldering will go easier. The tip of your iron should always be bright and shiny.

Made up something similar to this, I water cooled my setup, used these exact cheap cobs they really were terribly inefficent and burnt out quite a few real very quick even at 32-42 degrees Celsius water cooled compared to 70 to 80 deg air cooled. I used 550watts of them and they produce a nice amount of lumens but not great par considering the lumens and watts. Considering how cool they ran and how fast they burnt out when they shouldnt. These cobs are really a waste of time. Im all for saving money but this is not the way to go for a decent reliable led light. Id use them for a cheap small scale seedling, clone or small plant veg light at best.

Pretty cool! I love a good a good home brew light build. Just one thing; 200,000 lumens @ 700w is over 285 lumens/watt. You're definitely not getting that; the most expensive lighting components money can buy can't punch numbers like that yet. You'll be getting 100 lumens/watt tops with that build.

Okay last comment should have waited till the end. All of those holes that you fed the wires through should have rubber grommets in them to protect the insulation of the wire. If the insulation gets nicked or chaffed you could get a nasty shock or have a short. Okay I think I'm done have a great new year.

i would have thought you would have heat issues as the plate is not machined flat on the back like a heatsink would be and it is very thin, i would definatly seek to add some passive cooling at minimum or buy flat unprinted plate and attach some heatsink strip to the back where the cobs are located and some fans.

Neat project joining all those together, but I'm not sure it's worth it in the end for a few reasons... The photon performance of those generic LED dies that make these generic chips up is not very good at all (all the generic cobs, not just these plant ones).. and the 2 band red blue spectrum is not very good at driving efficient photosynthesis either. . a generic AC-DC LED driver and some brand name cobs like Veros would perform MUCH better and would be pretty close to the same cost. They could be setup in a similar manner with no optics and a sheet of aluminum stock if not placed too densely and driven too hard. Not crapping on your project, just informing people about the performance of these things. I started out with some too and didn't know they weren't that great of a deal when performance is factored in.

Few safety issues there that i can see, please dont copy what this guys done directly. An example being the use of standard twin and earth wiring, while its up to the job of supplying the power the temperature rating of the insulation is only 70 C. Please be aware that your solder joints are weak when you solder anything make sure the solder flow's it has to flow or your going to have weak solder joints. and the heat from the lights could cause the wires to come loose you should use silver solder witch can with stand heat much better than cheaper solder . you should really pay close attention to what you are doing because you don't want to get shocked with electric.and if you can find some Teflon coted wire would be best for with standing heat too just saying.

I have built several lights with these chips and tested them over 3 months or so. They need good cooling, fans will be needed here. Even with good cooling, the chips don't last very long, after 12 week I got about 25% of the chips had failed. Not so good. There are other, similar LED chips with different driver ics that should perform more reliably. Buyer beware.
