Awesome design, just wondering isn't that gear ratio bad for Torque? Since you only need half rotation of servo you can increase torque upto 2x

can it handle pressure from a pump? I was looking for suitable solenoid valves for a DIY self watering plant system but if this can handle a bit of pressure I may just design and print one of these. Cool project btw

Thanks, I actually found a cool valve design that allows me to use 4 lines so I designed and printed that, no need for an expensive solenoid valve.

@@sambawithswag this was the original link, I redesigned it to use bigger tubing. Use nylon tubing as PVC is too rigid

works well but it could be a spightly bigger valve or it would need to be opened a bit more to use the whole capacity of the tubing

"Automatic" he said. You need water level sensor connectod to the solenoid to make it "automatic".

Saved yourself fourteen bucks huh? This math works if you assume your time is worth absolutely nothing. That engineering degree is paying itself off already. 👍 Just imagine how many more times you can reinvent the wheel in order to avoid paying market prices.

He's already addressed multiple times that he is an *artist* 1st and engineer 2nd so it doesn't matter if the design is overcomplicated or less efficient as long as the outcome is cool... so take your hate elsewhere loser

Or maybe he enjoys doing stuff like this. It is fun for him. So he saved 14 bucks and got to do something he enjoyed. Why the hate?

Do whatever you want, but don't pretend you're doing it to save money. People like that are the ones that go to the casino and put $700 into the slot machine and then brag to everyone the next day about how they won $100.

How do you know he doesn't need 100 valves for his project. Oh all the sudden He's save 1400 dollars. Also, if he had purchased a solenoid valve, he would have to continue providing electricity to the valve for it to remain open. His solution has the benefit of only using electricity while turning on or off the valve. This is extremely useful if it needs to be battery operated. He did save money. There is no indication that buying the valve and building the control circuitry would have saved him any amount of time. There is also no indication that he if it had saved him time, he would have then used that time to make money in some other way. He saved money and did something he enjoyed. Maybe it's not the choice you would have made, but he's not wrong. I think I'll go make one of these valves now, as that I do have a need for one, which is why I came across this video to begin with.

You're desperate for this to work out. If you're buying 100 valves then you're not going to pay retail. And if it's that big of a project then you're definitely wasting more time than it's worth when you should be doing other things. I don't care what you want to build. Just don't lie to me and tell me what a great deal it is that you paid tens of thousands of dollars for a degree and your pinnacle is "saving" $14. If it's a hobby then be honest about it. But if you're "putting your degree to good use" and worth anything as an engineer then you have better things to do with your time. Good luck with your valve.
