I have had my 2 hp Grizzly for 15 years. Where I found leaks around the strap, I use tape to stop them. With the plastic bags, I just empty them with a big pot with a handle. Can't empty it all, but a bag lasts forever and don't change them for a long, long time. The top bag I wash on gentle after a lot of shaking it out first.I also bought 2 micron bags for the top. All in all, a great dust collector. Keep up the great videos.

To attach the plastic bag, just use a couple of strips of masking tape to hold it onto the dust collector, then you can clamp down the metal strap without any hassles.

Ive found that using a few neodymium magnets to hold the plastic bags to the dust collector, makes changing the bags with that metal strap eaiser. Also for the dust leakage your getting where the metal strap is around the bag, if you have some adhesive foam thats fairly thick, stick that around the base where the bag goes on and then put the bag and strap over and that gives a pretty good seal, because the strap bites into the foam

I have a small dust collector that had the port blocked off with the protective "screen" like that. The first time it plugged up from planer shavings, I just cut it off. I have an identical model with another name and I found the impeller has a large clearance and hence leakage , i think you might find that a central tube (tin can) added to the inside of the inlet fitted so that it almost touched the impeller would increase the airflow by stopping recirculating air coming back to the fan and only incoming air gets moved. Try it and you might be surprised

seen a neat idea yesterday, instead of a vacuum head moving around the floor, the guy mounted it against a wall and swept dirt to it. Made it much easier to clean up, cause moving a big vac around is a pain in the ass compared to running a broom. But this way he did not have to sweep into a pan.

since P = IV, the wattage output of the motor is 888W. One horsepower is 745.7W, so that would mean the efficiency is around 84%, which seems a little on the high side, though may still be possible. More likely the motor is around 9/10ths horsepower

Ratings will very widely from Manufacturer to Manufacturer, the only true rating for Hp is expressed in Wattage(KW), One Kw = 1.34hp(I believe) or One Hp = 745 watts,(depending in the standard, some express 1Hp as anywhere from 735watts, to 748 watts) found by multiplying Voltage(measured at the Outlet) x Amperage, (ie; 119volts x 9.93 amps = 1,181.67 watts /divided by 745=1.586 or a little over 1-1/2 hp

I have a similar cheap dust collector, best way I found to make it more efficient was to use it in conjunction with a cyclone separator. These small units lose their efficiency quickly as the filter bag clogs and the bags are hard to change as you mention, using the cyclone slows the clogging and means the bags need to be changed less often. Just wish I could pick up one for the low price you did though, even the cheapest in the UK are at least twice the price.

Interesting. My friend has a 1HP comparable unit as your cheap one, but the funny thing is that it only runs at 240watt, vs. expected 750 watts. That might be the same with your unit. Which might also be the reason why the big unit outsucks the cheap one. It seems that the impeller is not near its optimal performance on those units. You think you buy a reasonably strong unit, but they suck at what they are made for due to poor design.

How loud and how much vibration does this put out?I have seen this in the BB catalogue - and was considering it. I live in a one bed apt and have converted my bedroom to a workshop / carving room. I successfully run a band saw - drill press - scroll saw - bench sander - dremel ... with no complaints from neighbours. I have a TV in the shop an so long as I can hear the TV over the tool and no one complains about the TV I should be good. Been doing this for two years. Greg Toronto , I have the 2HP CT030 from Busy Bee. It has a 6" port - i would recommend using the 2HP model and a 5 or 6" pipe. I have a Y connector to a pair of 4" pipes right at my blower - the DC hauls enough air that if I have one, or both pipes open, the air-flow per pipe doens't change - so at 4", I'm not really taking advantage of the 2HP capability. I also find at 4", i don't quite get enough airflow to *really* keep the TS or the planer cleared; what i generally do is run one of the 'pipes' to the tool i'm using, and I run the other one to an open port - usually my floor sweep - so I'm both collecting air through the tool AND air-exchanging the shop through the floor port. I also have an overhead air cleaner - the shop is FAR less dusty , but unless you are going to haul the machine around with you, the 1HP units in this video are too small. For my show, I can't haul the machine with me - the shop isn't big enough. I had to run ducting. I'm also going to get a canister filter for the top - it really improves airflow.

I run the power tools only for a short time but trying to keep the dust down. do more power carving and hoping to set up flexible port to carve into. my biggest concern is the vibration and the noise it may produce as I am in an apt. need something no louder then a regular vaccum. any thoughts?

The problem with the thien hat on a DC that's under 3HP is the massive drop in throughput; if you look in the forums on Phil's site, you can see members with the thien baffle doing tests - dropping their DC from 600CFM to 375; that's a big loss - if you've only got a 1 or 2HP motor, the baffle, although convenient, is going to prevent the machines from hauling enough air at the machine end to really do a good job of dust collection.
