Thank you so much for showing yourself walking through Home Depot and what the items look like in the store. I wish more US based content creators showed where they got their items if a trip to HD or Lowe's was in the vid, even just a blooper reel.

We can go cheaper than that. Dollar tree hoola hoops. You disconnect them and put a piece of wood inside each end and stick it in your garden box. Voilà

True. There are so many different methods! I like doing it this way because I get to customize the height of each hoop to particular garden beds.

Thanks for the inspiration. I couldn't get rebar in my vehicle, but the home improvement store near us sells 6' long green plastic garden stakes that look like rebar (amazon does as well). That product was easier to work with/cut than rebar. We cut those in 8-10" segments and drove into the ground. The pexx pipe was a great idea - I found some polyethylene pipe at Lowe's that worked just as well. I used some garden mesh fabric and 2" long metal clips from amazon, worked great, was easy to install. My husband had a pexx tubing cutter but those are only $8, so not terribly expensive, either.

Krylon (5x thick and matte) from Lowe's: www.lowes.com/pd/Krylon-FUSION-ALL-IN-ONE-Matte-Black-Spray-Paint-and-Primer-In-One-NET-WT-12-oz/1000460293?. Apologies for the delay in my response. Hope you build some garden hoops :D

Thats PEX not PVC, PVC costs about 3x as much as PEX. If you are going to use PVc, use the gray PVC electrical conduit, as it has better UV resistance than plumbing pipe. PEX is so much cheaper it can be the way to go.

also if you make a wooden base frame and connect hoops to that you can remove the whole assembly very easyily. Possibly even hinge it.

One more question about the pvc pipe. I didn't see it getting bent so I guess it's a little flimsy. So will it stay upright well and in place once over the rebar.
@gardenheaux
Жыл бұрын
Yes it will stay upright and in place once over the rebar. The pipe is easy to bend (you can use your hands; doesn't require other tools to bend), but I wouldn't say it's flimsy because the material itself is pretty sturdy.

It was a good video but speach was way too fast and I had to keep rewinding over and over. Thanks to the Captions I finally got it but that blocked viewing some things. I think (I'm really hard of hearing) the pvc pipes fit directly over the rebar and that the staples hold bird netting into the dirt (forgot what the staples were called and never heard of them but they sound useful).

Cheryl, on the bottom right of the KZitem video is the gear icon right next to the CC icon. Click on the gear icon and select "Playback Speed"...select .75 or .5 speed. 🤣

Netting is fine until you see a dead bird which has got in but couldn't find a way back out and you are directly responsible for its death. No nets for me - not any more.

If the pipes lean, are they too long?
@gardenheaux
2 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. I have created very tall ones before. You just need to add the right support to it. You could add a taller rebar or add a pvc pipe that goes across the top of all the hoops to help stabilize them.
