I’ve had that same setup 15 years. Take the ends off the hoist rack off and mount the pulleys to a long 2x4 the same width as the shell. Move them out wider.Takes strain off the hoist and it works much better! Great work! This allows you to hoist the shell higher up too!

Good video , I made a similar setup , but a tip for you is to paint marks on floor at left rear tire on side and front and back when you have the truck in perfect position for the next time removing or installing to make it easier. You can look back out the door and position truck perfect every time.

Good job. Have you ever thought of buying a 2500 # winch ? You could run a pully system and mount the winch to the wall. Or, mount it to the ceiling and go from there. You can get a wireless control one for under $200.

Yeah i thought about alot of different options but i was going with the cheapest and easiest way to do it. This was actually even cheaper then doing it all from scratch. With the drill it really only take a 1 extra minute.vs having a winch thats ready.

great video, thank you. If your sheet was on the 2x4s and laying on the ground, would the hoist cables reach down that far? Or will it only work if the shell is at truck bed height? My Ceiling is about your ceiling height. THX

Wondering if you are still satisfied with this setup. Seems like a good way to go. Can't seem to find it online though. Anyone know if it's been discontinued, or just supply chain issues? Thanks!

Its been fantastic. It sadly has been discontinued. Someone here in the comments has found prior stock on ebay and similiar products out there.

I just find the balance point of the cap and lift it straight up over my head and walk out of the back of my truck there not that heavy the key is finding the balance point. Then I store it under my back deck it's so much faster. I had trucks with 8 foot beds and never had a problem taking the cap on and off by myself.

Maybe with an aluminum shell. But the last two fiberglass shells have been over 200 lbs. There's no way I could lift it over my head and walk with it. This way it's also out of the way and out of the elements/critters.

You are a beast! LOL! I just bought a used shell that the previous owner obviously took off by himself because there were chips along the bottom edge. This allowed me to get it at a fraction of the price and some door edge trim covered it up nicely. Took 3 of us to carefully place it on my truck.

Every shell is different size so youll just wanna measure for clearance and the blocks are in the rail channel as shown in the video.

would it work if you installed the i-bolts directly to the top of the camper and attached the ropes via carabiner clip there?
@aspiringadventure
4 жыл бұрын
You would have to make sure your shell has the structure to take the weight of itself so it doesn't crack. Also you would need to do some silicone or something to prevent water leaking in. Thirdly the asthectics of having I bolts sticking out of a $2000 dollar shell wouldn't be that great.

Could you have raised it higher than shown in the video?
@aspiringadventure
4 жыл бұрын
You can raise it all the way until it meets the crank. However I didn't like the geometry since the eye bolts are further out than the platform that comes with the product so I only go that high. But it's hight enough to walk under and drive a 6" lifted truck on 35s.
