Your suspension work is soon complete. It's great being a DIY guy so you can slow down to clean and paint. I like your style. You have a well equipped shop too. Thanks for the info on the stops, I need a pair myself.

Thanks for leaving in the part how you had to look at your other XJ as you forgot how the sway bar was aligned. And old aircraft mechanic told me to always take a bunch of photos before tackling a project that involves removing parts that have a specific alignment. Only takes seconds to do and potentially saves you hours of frustration.

Did replacing the bushings help with any clunking over bumps? My xj is lifted 3.5 in the rear, all new parts, except the old sway bar and bushings.
@MajorWeakness

Yes it eliminated all clunking, front Bushings are very cheap, like 5.00 at autozone, rear a little more

Silicone spray has petroleum distillates which are harmful to rubber. Use silicone grease instead which you can purchase at big box home improvement place will find in plumbing dept. ps coats better 2. Also great for all rubber "O" rings.

Never seen a sway bar on the rear of an XJ and I've built two of them!
@MajorWeakness
Жыл бұрын
I've never seen one without. The only XJ's i've worked on are 97 and up so might be a later model thing. I do know a lot of people remove them to improve articulation so that may have been what happened to yours. I currently own 2 2000 models and both have a rear factory sway bar.
@seniorxj2931

@@MajorWeakness I had a 95 and currently drive a 98. I'm gonna go check to see if there's bolt holes where they would go. I wonder if they make rear disconnects for a 7" lift lol. I guess I could always fabricate a pair to work.

Question, help needed. I have a 93 XJ 4.0 four wheel drive w/ Dana 35 axel purchased new with a factory off road package. After watching several videos I decided to replace the stabilizer (sway bar) bushings. Per the Chrysler parts book I ordered four P/N 5200-1145 bushings. Went to install the bushings and no sway bar or bushings. Per the parts book diagram for my XJ it shows a sway bar P/N 5200-1135, bracket w/ Dana axel P/N 5200-6450 and link P/N 5200-1094. Does anyone know why I do not have any of the above parts on my rear suspension. Appreciate any comments.

Alot of people removed them for better articulation but since you are original owner it is puzzling. Possibly the factory "off road" package didn't include? Hopefully someone can shed some light on this mystery

Due to the off road package, Jeep omitted the rear sway bar for better articulation. My 1996 rear sway bar broke as my town paved the alley where I park about a good 8 inches higher than it was. It's now a heck of a bump getting in and out of where I park. I heard it clanking, pulled the passenger rear tire and it broke where it's held against the frame. I took the end links off both sides where they're bolted to the leaf spring this e evening. I attempted to get the bolts out of the clamps holding the sway bar against the frame but couldn't get the right sized socked in there. So I just left the sway bar there until I get the correct socket size to remove them. I'll probably just leave the rear sway bar off and use the bolts to close off the frame holes where they mounted originally. Hit them with a dash never seize, insert them and give all (4) four a blast of undercoating to seal them up.
