Maybe it's because I'm a crafter trying to learn "art" through the magic of KZitem, but I find I have really good luck with the overlooked or looked down on art supplies. Thanks!

😀 if you want to give examples of mega masterpieces with Conté, check the french artist George Seurat's tonal Conté paintings, notably Signac's portrait or his studies for his paintings.

Always been in love with Conté after using it once in highschool for a cubism project. I loved it cause my teacher described it as a medium between chalk and pastel, and I never really liked either, as pastel was to creamy/waxy, while chalk on the other hand was too dry/brittle. So Conté was perfect for me

The Prismacolor art pastels are very much like these Conte crayons and are also good for figure drawing. Back in my day they were called "Design" Nu Pastels.

You bring up things that have been tucked away in the back of my drawer forEVER!!! So now i will have to drag them out, dust them off, and use them cuz I am guilted into it!! No Marie Condo in my art room 😂😂😂 Actually those pictures shown are really nice, and the abstract on the easel has grown on me-and i am not a big abstract fan. It's nice to watch your vids, Julie, so thank you. 😊

I love Conté Crayons because they are the perfect paring with Charcoal to add a splash of color. The sets are a great idea until...you use up a color that is difficult to replace. I've been everywhere trying to get just the Ultramarine color which actually looks like a periwinkle color or a light Ultramarine. No one has it all by itself and it is my favorite!

I have used Conte chalks and pencils for years, especially dog and cat portraits! Love them. I've also used them on Canson mi Teintes for still life sketches - they are super for adding reflection to glass or water drops!

Great reminder! Going to grab a conte instead of charcoal on my next portrait sketch. Thanks, Julie ~

They are different. Conté is not easily erasable and malleable. Draw with Conté pastels/chalks on big scale papers over some hard scale Conté or charcoal sketch, they are wonderful.

Can you tell me the name of the artist to look up his exhibit? I couldn't hear it. TY

What’s the difference between Conte and pastels? Why would you use the limited colors of Conte when pastels have such variety?

Pastels are so dusty and messy, and I really hate them, lol As Julie said in the video, crayons have a wax binder. There are about 50 colors of conte crayons, and you can blend them on the page, like nearly all other mediums. Or you can use a limited palette of colors, such as black, sanguine, and white.....the same as any other medium, including pastels. IMO, it takes more skill to use a limited palette.

How do they (or do they?) differ from the Neocolor I or II?
