Uhhhh so apart from the COMPLETE ELECTRONICS you wanna say. Liligo is an ESP32 and this is MediaTek, one of those feature phone all-in-one chips. I bought an identical MediaTek watch for $6 from China a few years ago because i knew Bunnie Huang was reverse engineering a similar chip, so i was hoping there would be some progress, but while i was tinkering with it, it died. Or was accidentally deaded by me. More like a long chain of accidents, including someone (not me) sitting down on it and then a long chain of attempted repairs (by me) which each broke it a little more. An actually open-source watch would be a huge head start, but there's no way i can afford a $30 device like that.
@vicnet

@@SianaGearz haha fair point! The entire design of it other than the main board is identical though... I took a chance when ordering them because it wasn't clear whether the screen was an always-on energy efficient display or not... @@vicnet Well i assume there are at least functionality demos. Makes me wonder though, there's an abundance of cheap Nokia clone LCDs - monochrome, 84x48 and 96x68 varieties. Phones used to run them always-on and would still last a week and a half. Why isn't someone making a mass market smartwatch based on those?
@vicnet
3 жыл бұрын
@@SianaGearz They do come pre-flashed with some demo code, but most of it is just a mock-up so other than telling the time it doesn't do anything useful. I haven't checked the status of the official repo in a while but I doubt I'll revisit them. Pebble was kinda "the" king of the always-on smartwatch before they got bought and killed by Fitbit. Now there's some Chinese brands like Amazfit that make always-on e-ink smartwatches but the idea of an open-source one really appealed to me... Ah well, good lesson in avoiding impulse purchases I guess... They didn't cost me much but I do feel bad every time I see them in my drawer 😂

You know what a coincidence is? A couple of days ago I was fixing this old (circa 1970s) stereo tuner I have, it's branded Studio Standard by FISHER. Same logo as on those earbuds. XD

1:57 I'm very sure that the unbranded version of that would just show a generic "Welcome" at that point instead of the Sylvania logo. 4:46 I feel as though Sylvania is just licencing out their logo or just slapping it on whatever cheap items they find on alibaba.com that they think would sell. 5:19 My dad tried the unbranded version of that, and it only supports 2G service. 13:49 I detect an NES on a chip setup with an integrated bootleg cartridge.

Question about the headphones: My wife bought those last year from Menards. She noticed one side discharges faster than the other. Any design reason you think that would be or just cheap electronics/one battery has less capacity than the other?

Wish I had a Menards here, that watch would be great for my kid.

That watch looks like it could have all kinds of potential if someone spends the time. The Gamer portable thing I entertained myself with on a road trip once, but mostly for the wrong reason. Those earbuds looked interesting as well. I need to find a video on how Bluetooth works now. Outstanding video as always.

If you don't like the bass response, you can use a needle to vent the rear of the drivers to increase it. Poke speedholes in the casing to tune it in.

Sylvania Smart Watch - probably same quality as the Sylvania Laptop from the mid '10s!
