I can see a lot of confusion here. That servo applies pressure to the band which applies in 2 and OD. The corvette servo has a bigger diameter apply piston. Therefore it applies more pressure to the band. In other words you will see a firmer shift in second due to increased pressure/less slip. The main problem with that transmission is the 3-4 clutch pack. This is a good upgrade during an overhaul, (along with many others) but it will do very little to increase the life of this transmission in most cases. I am not saying don't do it, I am just trying to keep expectations in line with reality.
@SkinnySkinch

Thanks for that info. Do you have any recommendations on a 4L65 rebuild kit?
@michaeldose2041
2 күн бұрын
@@SkinnySkinch There really isn't a kit per say. Z pak for the 3-4. There is a wide band. Aluminum pistons, Fitzall makes a valve to disable the TCC partial apply ..500 boost valve. Hardened sun shell. Those are some things that come to mind off the top of my head, that I would use in every build. The question is what are you building it for and how much are you willing to spend? It is a high production unit so there is a huge amount of after market support . No matter what you do or how much you spend it will never be a strong as a 4l80e. Those units are cheap and plentiful and an easy conversion for a truck. Cars, like a camaro have limited space for a bigger unit. My best advice is do your research before you do your teardown and consider what will work for you.

This is a fantastic upgrade for any stock 4l60e. You get a bump in the 1-2 shift, but its meant to fix the lazy 2-3 shift. Makes the 2nd gear band release quicker and it doesnt fight the 3/4 clutches, which saves the 3-4 clutch pack. Great for performance, towing, or even lifted applications.

I have a 4l60e transmission in my Chevy Silverado. I had a shift solenoid go out. When researching solenoid repairs I found out about Corvette Servos. I changed out all 4 solenoids, changed the filter, changed the fluid, and put a Corvette Servo in. What a huge difference. No more lag from 2nd to 3rd which was a big problem before the shift solenoid went out. Highly recommend doing this upgrade.

Great part to upgrade for a stock 4L60E. Another great idea would to install an additional trans cooler in line with the radiator return line as it helps keep things lasting a bit longer. When you dig into the trans (because you will with one of these), I'd recommend doing either the 4L65E upgrade or going with a 4L80E trans.
@rockroll9513

Most trucks already have an external transmission cooler that's not connected to the radiator. You're not going to notice a difference between a 4L60 and a 4L65 unless they were built wrong.

@@rockroll9513 Most, if not all, vehicles already have an external transmission cooler, most of which runs through the radiator but sometimes has a separate one in front of the radiator. A little added cooling, especially if you live in a warm/hot climate like I do, makes for a world of difference. Also, the 4L60 and 4L65 are relatively the same transmission, the 65 simply has stronger gears, larger fluid lines, bigger torque converter, and a slightly larger filter (to list a few items) to run around with opposed to the 4L60 to which I had blown up 7 of them. Still running on my built 4L65E and going strong I might add. It's capable of taking more power through the trans than the old 4L60 was and I only have mild mods on my 5.3L.

After I got the transmission rebuilt my shifts were so harsh I though it was going to break my neck or something in the driveline so I actually removed the Corvette shift servo and installed the stock one. Not sure if my transmission builder installed a shift kit or what but after the rebuild I no longer feel like I need the Corvette shift servo. Also those black seal rings you thought were broke or ripped are supposed to be like that. They work similar to piston rings to keep the pressure from pushing past the seal.

That needs to be installed with the bottom end of the trans removed. Need access to the band clamp. There is a clearance check requirement between the servo rod end and the band. Most of them need to be grounded down a bit (the rod end of the corvette servo), or when the trans heats up, the band will rub against the drum and wear the band out faster.

If you're going to do a tune up you should definitely get the msd coils and wires

No on the coils. Stock LS coils are more robust then MSD.

I have an 02 Silverado that shifts hard 1-2 so I’m definitely gonna try this before anything else.
