I don’t have any fluid beds for my powder paints. With smaller jigs it’s not really an issue. But I really need to bang the jar and shake it hard. But even if it gets thicker once I bake them the paint smooths out.

Get a big paper clip and just steer the powder paint till it’s really loose in the container. Once you start steering you will immediately feel the powder loosen up. Once loosened up it’s good to dip. Usually get two big jigs before I have to steer again.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm planning on messing around with color shift powders and clear. I'm going to see about adding some glittery mix. Thanks Lance! Wife is doing well, still on the back end of recovery and will be for months, but for the most part feeling great! Mixing clears/powders is definitely fun, albeit risky! I certainly went through some mixes that didn’t turn out and found file 13! Also, if you add glitter be careful as it tends to fall to the bottom in the fluid bed… for me anyway, it killed the airflow. Hope you get it nailed down!!

You know that colorshift pigment is outrageously priced? It's the exact same as we have been using in the autobody world for years. But the price is about half. There's about 700 color shifts and probably 250 or so hypershift colors.
@SDGCustomLurecraft
7 ай бұрын
I can be pricey, yup! Great effect though, even with a small dose. Fortunately, these colorshift power paints are very reasonable - 100s, if not 1,000+ jig heads (depending on size) can be painted with one jar! Thanks for watching, I do appreciate it!

@SDGCustomLurecraft

Glad you enjoyed it! Re: clear coat, sure thing: You could dip into a powder paint clear coat before curing to add another level, you could apply 2-part epoxy (but I’d recommend a lure turner to keep it even as it cures), or you could use UV resin to add a clear coat (assuming you have the right lights to set it). Hope this helps!!

I must say that these paints look very very nice indeed. Looks like I'm going to be out some more money now lol. I am also a victim of the "you overheated your jig up before dipping it club" I have no most trouble with the green pumpkin, and white colors and occasionally black as well. Trial and error and remelt as needed to remedy the mistakes. Of course an ugly jig head will still catch fish just saying. Thanks for sharing this video with us.

I have been experimenting with using Superglow white as a base to see how much if any glow comes through. Since you have the beds warm I was wondering if you use Superglow White as a base will the Nova Series glow colors in the dark or change the glow . Thanks also about the clear coat difference, which was one of my next experiments. With this cold snap in Texas it is hard to GEAUX FISH so move the vise in the kitchen and get to tying. God Bless and keep warm
@SDGCustomLurecraft

Thanks Rory! I've not tried any glow powder - interesting idea though! Based on what I saw, I doubt it would have a significant effect on the darker powders as they are opaque enough to just cover the base, however, the lighter 3 did show differences and may produce a little somethin' somethin!

Wondering what diameter/ size heat shrink wrap do you use to protect the hook eye. Thank you.
@SDGCustomLurecraft
Жыл бұрын
That depends on the hook. I generally use 1/8 for 3/0-5/0 and 3/32 for 2/0 and smaller. 6/0+ the hook eye is usually big enough that you can paint it safely without running the risk of sealing the hole - even some 5/0s are likewise big enough but I use a lot of 5/0 and still put it on just in case. Both sizes can be found on Amazon - big rolls, super cheap, last you a LONG time!

LOL, I finally brought a good camera, yup! First 2+ years of the channel, everything was done on an iPhone… very limiting (much more-so than I realized). As I get used to the new equipment it does indeed make the whole process more enjoyable. Not that it wasn’t before, but man… I underestimated how much having better filming equipment would de-stress things and just let me “roll with it”. Between that and all the lighting I added to the shop (so I don’t have to setup different soft boxes everywhere I go…) it’s been another game-changer (on the production side vs baitin’). And yeah… even the quality of the picture… blurry backgrounds, etc… all makes a big difference!
