This is a follow up to my "limp levering" Henry Long Ranger based on the suggestion of a viewer to check the headspace. If you recall, some of my .223 reloads were having "issues" and wouldn't chamber in the Long Ranger, but they did "chamber" in a drop gauge as well as being within brass length spec and cartridge overall length as well.
Since Henry has not followed up with me since their initial automated service request in late August (~2 months ago, so they must be VERY busy with other customer service related repairs....hmmmm, not so encouraging), I borrowed a min/max set of head space gauges to check the rifle.
I was actually hoping that the gauges would "find" an issue, but it seems the min chambered/extracted fine and the max did not chamber (as expected) and did eject (from half chamber) and I did not "force" the max gauge in, but gave it the same amount of lever work as the min gauge.
So, I'm left with a lever action I will never trust from a vendor who isn't very responsive. Suffice to say this is my last (and wasn't my first) Henry and I waited YEARS to get this. Disappointing.
