Excellent review Christopher, thank you. My dad wanted a Rolex when in Vietnam but couldn't afford one so bought a Rado Purple Horse instead which I now have.

Bought mine while in Nam in 1969 at the Long Binh PX for…$125.00 which was half price stateside. Coolest watch on the planet and I still wear it today! Every day!

$200 isn't adjusted for inflation, today that $200 is roughly equal to about $1500.

I got my 5513 as one of the crew of Australian Americas Cup crew in 1970. The cost in that time was $US240. It's main feature for sailors was that it was waterproof. The strap was useless and kept popping open on ocean races so we threw them in the bin. The time keeping is poor. My $100 Citizen Eco-Drive loses about 1 minute A YEAR without adjustment - it's better than any clockwork chronometer and I use it for star nav. My son is waiting for me to die to get the Rolex as a status symbol. What a stupid planet we live on.

Patina and beautiful are mutually exclusive. Patina on a car is called rust. Those watches are not collectable. When collecting any thing it's condition that dictates price and those watches are only worth original purchase price. If they were in mint condition l would pay handsomely. In their existing condition they're not even good for parts. Cheers

Collectors must be nuts to want to buy old junk watches falling to pieces. I love Rolex but not these . Patina is a great marketing tool to describe damage.

My thoughts exactly. " patina" = damage.

That isn't adjusted for inflation, today, that $200 equates to around $1500, give or take a few bucks.
