What's the point of having bio filtration if your gonna rinse it with tap water ? .

Do you have well water? always taught not to rinse bio media with tap water. murdering your bacteria that way.
@mrinsanitii

In his case it doesn't really matter as most of the bacteria is establish within the tank (planted tank). However it is better to rinse the media with aquarium water/dechlorinated water as a rule of thumb.

Isn't is bad to rinse your bio media with tap (chlorinated) water because it can kill the bacteria living on the media?!?!?!
@TheDadderz

You are right. It is best to rinse in old tank water if possible. I have done tap water for the sake of convenience and not had issues, but the best rule is to keep chlorine away

John, thanks for your review. I know you're a big fan of Chemi-pure. As a proud owner of a 55G planted tank, I just added Chemi-pure Green a few days ago upon cleaning my canister filter & already I can see a big difference. When you say crystal clear water you ain't kiddin'! You may have already addressed this but could you provide a species list for your tank? I really like the fish you've chosen for this particular tank. Thanks

i added it to my tank, and my variegated plant started getting wholes in it, i dont know if its related to the chemi pure, but i am curious what happens in other tanks in the next few months, it is carbon, thanks john

Nice video. Great tank and fish. I use regular chemipure in my planted tanks (4). I'm thinking of switching to chemipure green. Since I have one tank that is overstocked due to fry growing out, will the chemipure green help with nitrates? My tank has mostly vals, crypts and java fern so it doesn't make much of a dent in my nitrates which run around 40 ppm despite weekly water changes. The regular chemipure helps, otherwise it would be a lot higher. Will the chemipure green help control the nitrates as well as the regular?

@@Diosesdepapel your welcome. I rinsed mine for 30 secs and put it in my filter along with polyfil. After 10 minutes water was very cloudy from the dust i guess. But 5 days later it was crystal clear been that way ever since. But i also still do my weekly water change. 20% just cautious about the decaying food and waste that sinks in the substrate

Not a bad idea. Though I have never had any trouble rinsing in the sink, and it's more convenient. Pulling out old tank water and rinsing in a bucket of that would be the best option.

Pa. Fish Preacher or if you're lazy just pull out the baskets and shake them out within the old canister water one by one. You're just looking to remove the debris. Then dump, put baskets back in. Wallah, no buckets.

Question - Do you know what makes Chemi Pure Green's carbon different from other carbon? The reason I ask is that everything you read or listen to regarding carbon and its use in a planted tank is that it does remove micro/macro nutrients that plants need. I have two planted tanks (40 breeders) and I have always used Purigen until two months ago. I switched one tank over to the chemi pure green and I have noticed, since it does contain carbon, that my tank with Chemi pure green, the plants are not as vibrant green and some of the leaves have died. While similar plants/lighting etc...have taken place in my other tank with Purigen and those plants are vibrant and no dead leaves. Just curious how chemi pure green's carbon is different than all other carbon products that do in fact remove phosphates and the other micro/macro elements. Full disclosure, I even use Seachem fert tabs in the tank with chemi pure green while my other tank has not had ferts in some time (a few months). Both tanks have Seachem Fluorite Black Sand substrate. I have reached out to Boyd-Enterprises and I am waiting on a reply. Thanks

@@Mrdds1520 did you get any reply from them regarding the carbon possibly removing the nutrients in the water that the plants need? I'm interested to find out too. Have stopped using carbon a few years back due to concern about plant well-being.

@@shammaideen6628 Hello. I did hear back and all they said was what the label states " it has little effect on trace elements". I have been using both Purigen and Chemi Pure Green back and forth over the last year or so. I trade fish with my local pet store so I get whichever they have in stock at the time. All of my plants seem to be doing well using either product. I do use root tabs and my tanks are over stocked so I am sure that extra bio load helps the plants as well as I have to trim everything monthly. Thanks and I hope that helps.

The product is aimed towards planted aquariums you said for freshwater aquarium and it can be used for planted aquarium. This is incorrect the other Chemipure they make is for marine and freshwater aquarium and the blue is more aimed at marine aquarium. The green is for Planted Aquariums get your facts straight. Any confusion people go to the website boyd--enterprises.com/chemi-pure-green/

Hi Jose -- What did I say that was wrong? Green is for planted tanks -- that's what the whole video is about. Blue is for marine tanks. Original Chemi-pure can be used on either. Thanks for watching. jc
