Your talent and kindness blend in a very unique style that is so much fun to learn from. I'm so excited to learn my next tune from you: Cherokee!! Soon I will be playing it in 12 keys!

My favorite jazz tune, along with All The Things You Are, by Kern. Great information and great playing!

Thanks Pam! I agree about both tunes. It's interesting that these are your two favorite tunes - they both end their bridges with a 7(#5) chord. I wonder if there are other tunes that do this too!

Interesting observation, and although I know very little about chord structures, I do know what I like. If you like "All The Things You Are" I'm sure you would enjoy Gene Harris' live version with Johnny Griffin, Frank Weiss, Martin Drew and Jim Mullen on KZitem. It's a marathon marvel! Also, Dave Brubeck has a great version of Cherokee on his "Live at the UK" album. God bless.

@@pamtebelman2321 Thanks, Pam - I hadn't heard either of those recordings! The Brubeck album has a great version of Body and Soul as well.

@@rondrotoskeyboardimprov9453 Agreed, very creative! Not my favorite tune, but done very nicely by Dave, and Bobby M. is superb. I think the best version of Cherokee I've heard is Art Tatum's - no surprise, of course. Another good one is Harry James with a superb drum solo by wildman Buddy Rich.

Great video, great playing. Thank you very much for sharing this. This is the first of your videos I have seen, so I'm excited to see there are 60 more for me to explore! ( BTW, 8:30 sounded like a quote from the intro to "Take the A Train")

Thanks for watching, David! Yep, I'm going through the whole book and am almost up to #70. You have good ears - that is indeed a quote from the intro to Take The A Train!

Hi from France :). Great vibes and so nice ! Thanks for the journey, just got the real book (1st vol) for my 20th birthday, as I'm just getting into Jazz music and your videos really inspire me :D

Just curious about all the arpeggiated chords. To my ear they compete a little with the right hand. That right hand is busy! Nice version. Are there more up tempo tunes in your video collection?

Thanks Trish! Yeah, everyone will hear these things in their own way. Maybe it's the right hand that's competing with the arpeggiated chords. Or maybe they both contribute to a composite texture. Good food for thought! Lots of uptempo tunes here, since I'm playing every tune in the Real Book, both fast and slow. Cherokee is definitely one of the fastest, though :)

I believe Dizzy also plays the piano on Koko, as the pianist didn’t show up for the session. You can hear that there is no piano during the “head”.

I've heard that too, Alen. It's interesting to compare Dizzy's own highly-organized recording sessions with this session of Parker's, which was the opposite!
