Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's great to hear! I've kept my barbs with with danios as well in the past. Having plants doesn't make the gravel cleaning too bad, in fact it might even make it easier for you since the roots will be using all the nutrients made by any detritus!
@lgtvsmart4078
Жыл бұрын
@@BodgieFromStraya so if you have plants 🪴, is ok not to clean gravel?. Also will that disturb the roots. I dont have experience with plants. I previously kept afr cichlids had used to a internal pump to drain water. The problem now is almost 30% of food is stuck in gravel barbs/danios have tiny mouths can t reach micro pellets. This was not a problem with previosuly kept afr cichlids they scoop the entire gravel eat food and throw gravel out.
@BodgieFromStraya
Жыл бұрын
@@lgtvsmart4078 Yeah so plants should actually help you big time with this. That 30% of the uneaten food basically becomes plant fertiliser. You can also add Malaysian trumpet snails as they will burrow through the gravel eating the remaining food. You can still gravel vac but just stay away from the plants and you will be fine!

Just wondering what your recommendations for dark substrates are here in Aus? I see you have some type of Aquasoil but does it need to be changed or etc? Other options for planned tanks I've heard normally involve aqua soil in filter bags topped with sand or something, but unsure what to use in regards to black/dark substrates
@alexcox1303
2 жыл бұрын
Would they just not colour up as much on lighter sand?
@BodgieFromStraya
2 жыл бұрын
hey Alex! so yeah I use aquasoil and it should be a viable substrate for a good few years. it does break down over time but if you are anting a proper permanent option then a black gravel might be the way to go. Black sand is often blasting sand which is super sharp and just a pain. The other option might be to look at volcanic rock sands which are used in saltwater aquariums. I think its Hawaiian black sand but that may be a bit harder to find in our area.
