I was raised on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake, but have been living in Hawaii for the past 30 years. I started crabbing over here and make my cakes the exact same way. Classic recipe. Only i use a deseeded fresh jalapeno and cilantro as substitutes for the pepper and parsley. Great memories. Crabbing to table is alot of work, but good time spent and well worth the effort. Thanks for sharing. Its always nice to see I'm doing something the right way.

This makes me really miss crabbing with my neighbors when I lived in Virginia, off of Little Creek Road! I actually created a shrimp & crab cake with green peppers & onions, instead of using the red pepper and fresh parsley! They were ABSOLUTELY delicious! I'm going to try your recipe also.

So true - nothing quite like a crab cake made with crabs you just pulled from the water! When my grandchildren were little, they would amuse themselves for hours with a piece of string with a bit of chicken wing attached to it and they would be so excited when they pulled up a crab.

@@BettysKitchenFare Two little boys, nine years old, we’re the ones who taught me how to crab, with the stinky chicken tied to the end of a long stick, thrown out into the water and slowly but carefully pulling the crabs to us! Those were the best crabs ever! That was almost forty years ago! I’m angry that we’re going through this Pandemic, otherwise I would love to have my grandchildren learning how to crab.

queeniknowhoiam The recipe came from a restaurant at the Beach - I can't remember the name of it, but I thought it was the best crab cake I ever had. There was a restaurant in Norfolk called The Abbey who made eggs Benedict with a thin crab cake instead of the ham - delicious!
