unfortunately, due to copyright issues this version was never released. you can find the professional recording floating around somewhere (most of it was on google video the last time i checked). as for a real professional recording, that'd be the version with idina menzel, adam pascal, josh groban, and kerry ellis which was broadcasted on pbs.

Julia messing up the steps at the end was hilarious! She was like "Oh shit, they've all moved up!" And she like shimmed her way up there XD I love her so much.

Interesting... "comes the gastly suspicion my opposition's a nut" The original lyric is "fruit." It makes more sense why she's admonishing him for implying that the American is "one of those." The nut lyric doesn't make quite as much sense.

Heh - I think that he's actually using fruit as a double entendre as both crazy and gay. After all, why else would he insist on a screen between the players so he can take his moves without looking at his opponent? He's distracted by the Russian's hotness.

Hey there, Arkibet... I'm not as familiar with Chess so I can't compare (which I'm thinking is a good thing), but "fruit" may be a dated term whereas "nut" still has coloquial legs. It works for the newbie... :) JMO.

He is saying he thinks the American is crazy, hence “nut”, as in “nutty” “For then you’d simply call him highly strung and *not* imply that he was off his head.” Florence’s reply makes that clear.

Consonants please..can't hear so many of the words they are singing!! Grr. Obviously it's very good even so.Josh Gobran (bin?) has an "SS" sound thing he does with his mouth..interesting.

Good catch! I didn't notice the second change in lyric. I wonder why that is. I like the idea that the Russian believes that the American is sane, and comes to a conclusion that the American is actually gay. Hense, "a fruit."

Does anyone know where one can buy a DVD of Chess? I see pictures and excerpts of the singers, but have not located a DVD with all the opera?

this is so self loathing _ I love all those singers..but they need to sing it straight--its a fugue..there is a reason he wrote it that way
