how is the weight of the pieces? Unfortunately, after what I read happened with the original chessup, I'm pretty reluctant to preorder the second iteration of it until people actually see how it performs over time.

What happened to the original ChessUp? I bought the first version and it's worked great for me.

@@htxchess there's posts all over the place complaining about how it's extremely buggy/glitchy and how they made all these promises that they completely failed to deliver on. They allegedly gave up support entirely on the product. How are the weight of the pieces? You never respond to that lol

Pieces are not heavy, but weight seems fine for an electronic board. Since their board has pressure sensors of some sort (to activate lights if you press on a piece) I imagine heavier pieces could cause damage. I definitely prefer heavy pieces on a regular board but then again I'm slamming pieces left and right when I play blitz in person.

The fields lighting up for computer or remote opponents' moves is obviously useful and needed, but I really can do without the where-can-I-move-my-figures disco - can I turn the latter off..??

Yes there's a 'no lights' mode. My last video I play 2 simultaneous games, and the ChessUp 1 on the right is on no lights mode.

Do you think this would help with OTB training for tournaments? Specifically, is the board size big enough to approximate the feel of playing a tournament with a regulation size board?
@htxchess

OTB practice is the reason I bought ChessUp 1 last summer. Tourney prep and I just wanted real pieces instead of 2D gameplay. It's way more enjoyable with ChessUp. The set is not as big as a tourney set, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I do like using it with rapid games before a tourney, and I write the moves down to build that habit.
