The mother is walking around in circles. That can't be a good sign.

Awe so cute. Is it normal for mommy to pace?

Ann Fisher - I don`t think that it is " normal" for any animal to pace like that . I suspect that the mother is stressed out being in a small enclosure . I have seen repetitive behavior like that from polar bears who were being kept in a pool enclosure that was too small , AND have seen tigers in captivity behave the same way .( pacing up and down )

Mother looks stressed and I think needs more space or maybe some area like large rock walls to stand near or behind to not feel threatened. I hope they can get her a better situation, but her baby is just too cute!!

The mother is pacing/circling the way most mammals do when stressed and bored; not a great sign, Chester Zoo. I support good captive programs but you need to do better!

Pacing can also be a sign of general nervousness, especially in herbivores- General nervousness is particularly common among new moms. In the wild, momma rhino would obviously be on the lookout for large predators, and I would imagine that's probably what's going on here given Chester Zoo's otherwise excellent reputation for care.
