I saw her live 4 times between early 1972 and late 1973. She has such a beautiful voice and stage presence. Offstage she was just as nice. She gave us autographs and was very kind to wait for every single fan who asked to be given her autograph, smiling the whole time.

Saw Barbara in Branson three or four years ago. As she was meeting everyone after the show, when my turn came I told her that Vincent was my favorite track she had ever recorded. She thanked me and said they did that song in one take!!

I’ve never heard this classic sung in a contralto range before. She makes it work.

The guitar Pope. What a deep void he left.

I'd heard him called Mr. Guitar....but the guitar Pope. Yes, you are right. I'd seen him 3 times in my life, met him once after a show. He's the reason I play now....been at it over 50 years.

Starry, starry night Paint your palette blue and gray Look out on a summer's day With eyes that know the darkness in my soul Shadows on the hills Sketch the trees and the daffodils Catch the breeze and the winter chills In colors on the snowy linen land Now I understand What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now Starry, starry night Flaming flowers that brightly blaze Swirling clouds in violet haze Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue Colors changing hue Morning fields of amber grain Weathered faces lined in pain Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand Now I understand What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they did not know how Perhaps they'll listen now For they could not love you But still your love was true And when no hope was left in sight On that starry, starry night You took your life, as lovers often do But I could've told you Vincent This world was never meant for One as beautiful as you Starry, starry night Portraits hung in empty halls Frame-less heads on nameless walls With eyes that watch the world and can't forget Like the strangers that you've met The ragged men in ragged clothes The silver thorn of bloody rose Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow Now I think I know What you tried to say to me And how you suffered for your sanity And how you tried to set them free They would not listen, they're not listening still Perhaps they never will

I'm listening to every version I can find of Starry Starry Night. This is close competition to McLean's live performance.

I think the song is far prettier when sung by a female voice. Barbara Fairchild really Nails it.

Barbara can't sing that sad song with her smile, enjoying singing, watching the guitarrist, this is an AWFUL and Silly Interpretation. She just doesn't get it. The story behind the song, the artist. She doesn't know the meaning...
