Thanks so much Eric. On my way to the parts store to pick up a new fuel pump assembly for my 08 Silverado, and you probably saved me an extra trip for a lock ring… I’ll grab one while there. Just discovered your videos, and color me impressed. One tradesperson to another, you are an excellent journeyman/teacher. Please keep up the great work and continue educating us home mechanics that are trying to save a few bucks in labor. I generally don’t subscribe to channels, but I subscribed to yours, you’re my 3RD subscribe… EVER!

Another great video, clear, concise, and excellent production value. Nice glasses. When I did my fuel pump, for the same reason, a few months ago the top of the tank and lock ring was as dirty as this one. A tool that came in handy for the lock ring was the OTC 6599 Universal Fuel Sender Lock Tool. That tool with 1/2 inch breaker bar enabled me to very easily spin off and tighten the lock ring.

Awesome 👍 - right on about the prop shafts not needing a specific position , ha your the first master tech that did not mark the position. Also the two piece shafts are balanced independently and assembled with the centre hanger just prior to install, they are not shipped to the assembly plant in one assembly with the centre hanger . Lots of trany, wheel bases , and axle combos make it easier to do at the factory. Been a while since I put prop shafts on the trucks at GM but all the shafts do not require any orentiation. As you noted it's the cleaning of the contact points that most miss that cause a driveline vibration. Ha I still have guys telling me to put wood under my batteries stored on a concrete floor to prevent a discharge. Man you make the pump install look so easy but for a guy in the driveway get prepared to put a lot of money in the cuss jar :)

+Steve Rob Funny you mention the battery myth is still around. I still hear it as if batteries haven't advanced in the last 90 years. I also told someone how hard it was to replace a fuel pump assembly. They went and bought 4" hole saw and cut a hole right over the pump. Then installed a stainless steel plate over the hole. As some car makers actually do to gain access to the fuel pump. He was happy as a geeky child for his ingenuity. As it had taken a total 1.5 hrs for him to replace and 5 breaks included.

It wiggled it self right off! Chevy and other auto makers should have kept that as a convenience.

HAHA with as many of these tanks ive droped in my day, i never ever ever take those strap bolts out with an impact if its more then 5 years old, i break em free and once there spinning ye then impact, if its a 2007 and older you better beleave i dont even touch an impact on them, those U-nuts are fucking junkkkkkkkkkkk, the newer trucks its wayyyyyyyyy easyer to drop the tank and they now have cut outs to access the clip when it breaks:) but personaly i find ford rust way worse then GM's, the pump module on them with the fucking 8mm bolts that seem to disapear over time... ya... never dropped a tank on a dodge so dunno whats up there

In response to the rear axle vent hose comment, I personally asked a former GM drivetrain test and design proofing technician / engineer about that. He said that in the mid 90s they located the vent hose up higher on the off road package trucks (ZR2, ZR5, etc) compared to 2wd and non off road package 4x4 trucks. Then in the midst 2000s anything 4x4 the vent ran up higher than 2wd, and in the last few years all the trucks 4x4 and 2wd all have the vent hose in the same place soley for ease of assembly and fewer different parts at the factory

+Tonys Tool Box probably because of some corporate bean counter wanting to shave three cents off every part to help the bottom line.

Always amazes me with all the engineers that these huge companies employ why they cant see some of the problems before hand. Coming from someone who's had a shard of splintered metal stuck into my eye, glasses are a hassle but man the pain and cost of removing metal from your eye is bad, to say the least. The bad thing is when they pull it out the salt from your tears run into the little hole left from the shard, and the pain is almost unbearable. I still forget to put on glasses sometimes, I just keep several glasses around the shop just to try and remember, The memory of the pain always help, it was many years ago, but the memories are still fresh.

The metal was a bad thing, I was driving in 4 penny case harden nails into concrete walls, putting up wood strips for dry wall, and my boss thought I wasn't going fast enough, so he pulls out his hammer and starts driving the nail from a side angle, not straight on. A piece broke off and stuck me right in the eye, I went straight to the hospital, it was sticking out just enough to catch my eye lid every time I blinked my eye, so I was a bloody mess by the time they pulled it out, 3 weeks of recovery. Hey but I did get a cool eye patch..and a new job. Your job is dangerous, you may not think so cause you know what your doing, but your eyes can not be replaced and just how would you aim a gun if you lost one.

Oh heck ya...Probably my one and only chance. When I was in welding school.....I was welding in a booth practicing my 7018 Dc, vertical 3/4 inch plate, and I happened to notice in my welding helmet that I could actually watch my friend behind me in the booth, it was a mirror kind of, so I watched what he was doing. Well later that night when I got back to the house, my eyes were on fire, like a hot poker was inserted into them, went to the hospital, this time I wore 2 patches for, around a week, Thankfully no real damage. Graduated welding school top of the class...and never welded for a living. That was 1973.Lesson Learned.....Mind Your Own BusinessI still have the same Helmet........42 years old, and works great.

I swear Charles you have some of the best stories lol. I remember putting on sunglasses one day and watching my dad weld for a while.... well you can imagine how I felt that night lol. I learned a few things that day. 1 was when your dad tells you not to do something..well listen. 2 there is a difference between a really bright blue light and UV rays. 3 watching a pretty blue arc hurts like hell and it is a pain and itch you can't escape...
