Removing the rear driveshaft makes it much easier to remove the gas tank.Sometimes that clip the gas tank strap bolts bolt into breaks.Don't ever buy an Airtex fuel pump, these are garbage with high failure rates. The replacement plug ins with the replacement Delphi fuel pumps, were for up to 2001 GM truck applications. The plug in melted which was a common problem. The locking tabs,I throw them away since they are a PITA to get out.The plug in is in hearing a click

Finally good to see you happy. Just a piece of advice try not to have low fuel in your tank like very often near the red line. Because it will help to reduce the fuel pump live. As the fuel actually keeps the fuel pump cool so having low fuel help to wear out the bearing and all that stuff.

There no job like a job well done. I had a valve go on my 98 K1500 (Exhaust 3), so I had to get the heads off. They were cracked. I ordered new ones and slapped it together, but the job was tiresome! Cleaning the rockers, pushrods and nuts led me to a new level of chemical burns (Super Clean is a hell of a cleaner...), and trying to remember how it all came apart and went back together was tough. However, once she started up again and ran without a hiccup, I was overcome with the feeling of accomplishment. I loved it. When you do a tough job yourself and do it right with satisfactory results... there really is no better feeling. Great job, man!

First thing i checked was the fuel pump but after ordei tested my old pump n it was still working so i was confused n i put everything back together, still wasn't working so i thought injectors and bought injector cleaner which seemed to work cause my truck started after 3 or 4 tries. I drove the truck for 4 days (even on highways) and it drive just fine but the 5th day it wouldn't start again so i go to harbor freight n get the same pressure set you had in the last video and i have 0 pressure so I'm thinking the pump is bad but when i banged it around it worked for a few days but I'm just going to replace it and hope it fixes the problem

HELP! I BELIEVE I AM GETTING SCAMMED!. I need your opinion. I live near Houston, Texas, and have a 1997 C1500 5.7 L Suburban which has had a weak fuel pump for several months requiring me to turn the key on and off and make numerous attempts to get it to start. As it got worse so I began using starter fluid to get it going and it ran great till Thursday, 2 days ago. It will still fire using the starting fluid, but then quit running. I called my towing service who cranked the engine over a few times before loading it to attempt to start it before loading it on the flatbed and taking it to a mechanic. The mechanic quoted me $375 labor if he used the fuel pump I had already purchased. It was Thursday and I told him I could have probably figured out how to change the fuel pump myself but had no time because I had to have my vehicle to get my wife to three urgent doctor's appointments on the following Monday. On Friday around noon, the mechanic called to say the starter needed to be replaced because it would spin, but not engage, and turned the engine over. This was weird because the tow truck driver had tried it just before loading it and it worked. I could have easily installed a new starter, but the mechanic said he could not install and test the fuel pump unless it would start and it would be $599 to replace the starter. I had no other choice but to pay the $599 because of the urgency. After the starter was replaced the mechanic then said he needed to replace the entire fuel pump assembly and that would be $1200. Previously I was providing just the pump, but the mechanic now told me that the plastic connectors on a 97 Suburban were old and would "probably" break if he didn't replace the entire pump assembly. (He knew it was a 97 model when he quoted the price earlier.) I told him I could not afford it and that I would just go back to using starter fluid so I could at least get my wife to her urgent appointments that Monday. He then informed me that the fuel pump was now blowing a fuse every time the key was turned on so the pump would not work at all and my Suburban would not run at all. It had never blown a single fuse in the 8 years, and now it was EVERY time, leaving me with a non-running vehicle. It was now nearly closing time and they did not work weekends so my only option was to leave it there to be repaired on Monday or have another towing service take it home and for me and I would try to fix it over the weekend so I could get my wife to her doctor's. I have changed starters before, but I paid for a new starter to be installed because it had to be done in order to fix the fuel pump. I had it towed home because I did not have the funds, I am now out $599 for a repair I could have done, and can't afford a repair that needs to be done because the price went from $375 to $1200. There are no buses where we live and since she has a very weak immune system, riding in my vehicle is her only option. I am also disabled and have difficulty walking, and also compressed disk and nerve problems in my spine causing my left side not to work well so everything takes forever to do. After looking at KZitem videos pulling the gas tank appears to be very hard for me to do so I was going to try to cut an access hole in the bed above the fuel pump and replace it that way. I need to know exactly where on the gas tank the fuel pump is located so I can cut the opening in the right place. Do you know of any videos or photos that will show exactly where I need to cut? I think the mechanic may have scammed me. What do you think? We are still praying for a miracle.

Great video! I have a 2003 Suburban with the 5.3L Flex fuel also. I have been having trouble with “hard start” condition. Turn the key and it just turns over but won’t start. Then turn the key a second time and it starts. Connected fuel pressure gauge with key off and had 0 psi. When started 45 psi. Pressure immediately dropped to 0 psi when engine was turned off. Not smelling any gas fumes that would indicate an external tank leak. Fuel injector pressure regulator has no gas in vacuum line. No indication of injector issue with performance or OBD codes. Believe check valve at fuel pump is faulty and requires replacement. Any ideas? I think I will be installing a new fuel pump assembly soon. Thanks.

Man so glad to see this video. Exactly what I am doing right now. 2003 Yukon 5.3 flex fuel. My pump had been suspect for awhile and I got ahold of some bad gas and it finished the pump off. I ended up removing the whole tank and draining it, so I had to go an extra step. The part about not being able to get the truck high enough was so relatable. I pretty much did the whole job with one hand, and it was definitely a challenge!

happy you fixed it man! you also may want to invest in a spark tester like $25 along with your fuel pressure gauge! another thing those electric fuel pumps in the tank are cooled by fuel so running you tank too low with give to fuel pump a shorter life! generally a small to medium vacuum leak with not cause the engine not to start but i will just run poorly! i see you noticed some or the parts are different for the flex fuel trucks even some of the engine gaskets! which is impartant since the fuel with eat away the ones for the regular engine! Cheers man!

I bought myself a 1/2" Dewalt battery operated midrange impact and boy does it make quick work of this kind of stuff..
