I commented on your other EVAP vid - P0455. I chased that money light rabbit to no avail. Saw this vid and decided to check the fuel tank pressure sensor. I could check & verify voltage but that was it. Replacing the vapor vent solenoid and purge valve didn’t correct the fault so I ended up at the fuel tank pressure sensor. I did not raise the bed or drop the tank. Sure as heck the sensor tip broke off. Got the soft sensor seal out and was able to wiggle the new sensor in. Did the specific GM “drive cycle” a couple of times and the permanent P0455 was gone. Much appreciated!!

My 3500 Chevy Express was throwing this code. Changed out the evap sensor after watching this video. Fixed it in my driveway for $45. Toughest part was having the patience to lower the tank in order to get to it. Thanks for the info and doing such great vids.

Your video says 4 years old but new to me. I just came upon a 2003 Chevy S10 that I put an engine in and I had an EVAP code P0446 that was driving me crazy. I loaded up the parts cannon (2 shots) 1 for the vent valve and 1 for the switch on the intake, still P0446. Stumbled upon your video (If anyone knows what the problem is it's Eric O.) and decided to give the tank pressure sensor a go. (Yes the little rubber thing snapped off and yes it came out with a drywall screw). So far, so good. Just trying to get through inspection.

Thanks for the video and explanation. I have a 2004 GMC that had the same code. After debating whether to spend the money on a scan tool or have someone else fix it I went with ordering the tool and doing it myself. I figured if I took it somewhere depending on how they went about things it may end up costing more in the long run than buying the tool and I will eventually find a use for it with my other car (I've been lucky for way too long). Gave me enough room to get my volt meter connected to the fuel pressure sensor. Again, thank you!!!

Hello Eric and the O clan, I'm in Las Vegas and I have a fairly wealthy customer who attempted to change the plugs on his Ford 3v truck, guess what, 6 of the 8 broke using the factory Ford protocol info. They now need to be changed again because of an injector problem that fouled them. I had him watch the Timmy video and his idea was we take it to him and we record the video to avoid editing, being that he's pretty well off he will be footing the bill. I appreciate all that You, Ivan, Keith, Paul, Bruce, Nestor and all of our real automotive Dr.s do for our trade. It's a shame that King Dirtbag Timmy is doing exactly what he's accusing others of by giving true, honest, knowledgeable Diagnosticians the dirtbag stereotype by his example. I don't think You, Keith, Ivan, Paul or any of us are talented enough to repair the no comm failure between Timmys brain and his mouth. Much respect to the true Aces of our community......

I did the pressure sensor on my 2005 Silverado 2500HD by Braille on the pavement in my driveway laying on my back and reaching up between the frame rail and the bed floor. The long forked trim rivet pry tools for the Christmas-tree trim plugs will pull the sensor. Thankfully mine didn't break off. Not fun but doable. I put Sil-Glyde on the nitrile gasket. The GM PCM eventually checks the circuit resistance through the pressure sensor and it will set a code if the circuit is open or shorted... IIRC it's P0451 but don't quote me on that. 0.22v must be a common sensor failure voltage.

Honestly not a bad idea but most shops with look over the whole car check your suspension and brakes too and try to upsell work. Putting a bad fuse in could be several things. Was the wipers frozen or covered in snow causing high resistance in the motor and now they are freed up. Maybe they will only replace the fuse and not test the circuit . That would be my red flag or they then tell you it’s the wiper motor.

Another thing you can do is use the ecm itself as a quick and dirty volt meter. Jumper your signal lead at the connector between the ground wire and 5v reference. Then just watch your obd2 scanner and watch the voltage. Should read 5v between reference and signal, and 0 between signal and ground.

any auto shop now days sould have at least one scan tool with bi directional capabilities and even if they did not most scantools will show ft pressure and when he removed the gas cap while watching to data and the pressure did not change it was obvious the data was lying which should have led them right to the pressure sensor for some checks. this system is simple and a shop def should have no excuse to mess this one up. not to mention they threw a vent solenoid and purge solenoid at it with the parts cannon. i would not want my vehicle at that shop. u may disagree and thats ok but i dont se any reason why a shop should have missed this one.
@RobertHancock1

Yeah, a $40 generic OBD-II scanner would have really been enough to figure out that the FTP sensor was bad here. The bidirectional control wasn't really essential for the diagnosis. Though I have to wonder what kind of shop doesn't have a scan tool with bidirectional control on a common vehicle like this..
