You'll need a low profile 32 mm (1 1/4") socket for the oil filter in order to clear the manifold. I found mine in the oil section of a local cart parts store, not with the regular sockets.

Thank you for a very helpful class. I'll mom watch the video cuz it's her car. You think those new style filters are better ? I would say no in my opinion but hearing other opinions is nice.

I really haven't made up my mind on the filters yet. I am so used to getting under a vehicle and changing the oil filter. However, it seems to work just fine as the engineers would know, and it is less messy. I think I could get used to it over time. Thanks for the comment!

What if the cap is stuck and won't come off
@SteveAZ711
5 ай бұрын
Use a 32mm socket and extension to remove it. Large vice grips maybe. An 1.25 in. socket may work as well. If you happen to break the cap...Amazon sells a replacement. These caps can be cross threaded and very difficult at times so take your time when installing or removing them. Just sayin. Yours is probably just on tight. Keep the threads clean for a better installation. Hope this helps. Thanks! link...amzn.to/49yJ0HW

i am too much of a perfectionist because I worry about getting a smudge of dirt in the oil from removing and reinstalling the oil drain plug and also the paper oil filter, is there tolerance for accidental smudges of dirt. Also, do I need to wipe the drain plug clean with a towel or can I just put it back on without wiping it clean?
@SteveAZ711
6 жыл бұрын
Clean everything as best you can, and then rely on your oil filter to do its job. I also like to use paper towels when they are handy because you know they are very clean. I also use new shop towels at times. I always clean my drain plug. Some plugs have a magnet on the end that catches fine particles and you want to get those dirt, metal shavings off. Carburetor cleaner works good for that. I leave some cleaning off camera to save time. Thanks for your comments!

Just wanted to let you know that changing your oil "even before 49%" is literally throwing away money....ESPECIALLY using Mobil 1 oil. Mobil 1 is very good oil, but even with a standard oil, you are fine using your oil until it is time to change it... *** Obviously it won't hurt anything to change your oil prematurely every time. It is merely a big waste of money. (especially using synthetic which is good to run more than twice as long as standard engine oil)

I need your help. I took apart my engine and I forgot where the hose goes from the brake booster to where? Some kind of vacuum hose runs down towards the oil filter but I don't know where to hook it to please help. It has a metal clamp not the plastic clamp
@SteveAZ711
8 жыл бұрын
On the 2.2 L engine the vacuum brake booster hose looks to go to a port behind the oil filter cap. On the 2.4L engine the the hose looks to go to below the throttle intake. The hose on the 2.4L also is a two piece hose from below the throttle body over to an inline connection to the hose coming from the booster. Hope this helps.

Steve thanks for the info. I still cannot find it. I have the 2.2 liter. I looked on the throttle body, on the intake maifold and all around the oil filter cap. I cannot find it. What should i do? Thanks

Is there no need to warm engine oil before draining it?
@SteveAZ711
7 жыл бұрын
Yes you should let your engine warm up before changing your oil. Impurities in the oil that the filter does not get become suspended in the warm oil and drain out much easier. Additionally, a warmed engine will have the lubrication it needs in that few seconds that it takes for the new oil to come up to pressure. I should have mentioned that in the video...good catch! Thanks for the comment!

You change the filter first with a cartridge style oil filter and there is a special oil filter socket made for the 2.2 and 2.4 ecotec engines.The old oil will dump right into the new oil

Denice Davis Hello, the relay box is under the hood and the relays just pull out. Here is a very good KZitem link explaining relays...kzitem.info/news/bejne/s3uKp4WMnn-fdHY If it is a fuse problem then watch this video at www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2007_Chevrolet_HHR_LT_2.2L_4_Cyl./fuse_interior/replace for some insight on fuse location. Hope this helps ...SteveAZ

how much oil did it hold?,how much should I buy?
@SteveAZ711

Hello Joe, My 2006 HHR has a 2.4L engine and it holds 5 quarts including the filter. The 2.2L engine holds 5 quarts as well. I use a good name brand oil that is 5w-30 weight, as recommended by the writing on the oil filler cap. Thanks for the comment!

What's the specific oil that you use?
@SteveAZ711
5 жыл бұрын
I am using Mobil 5w-30 Super in this video. I like Mobil 5000 5w-30 when I can get it. If I am going to change oil say around 2500 miles then I get a less pricey brand like Quaker State but still it is good oil. Steer clear of the really inexpensive stuff it just does not have as much additives such as molybdenum in the quantities that Mobil has, which helps reduce engine wear.
