FYI... your water outlet is broken. This new seal will work for a bit but will get sucked in again soon. The inner side of were the gasket goes around should be complete. Mine had a small portion broke but yours has an even larger piece missing. Who knows how long it will last but I've got my new piece on order anyway.

Great video, what is the name / part number of the gasket you replaced?

Great video saved me a lot of time diagnosing my coolant leak. My 2011 water outlet was broken in almost the exact same spot, a new gasket gives me about 2000 miles before it starts leaking again. Unfortunately GM does not have the part and does not give me any idea of when it will be available, just wondering if anyone has found a solution, I was thinking of going to a welding or fabricator to have them fix the part, maybe even a good liquid gasket might be a better temporary solution any ideas are appreciated

Not my problem, but thanks for the video. Mine has a battery coolant leak. Low battery coolant container and a slowly growing spot on my driveway, plus the "high voltage charging system..." Requires service alert. I really like this car. Makes me sad that I've had electrical issues.

One of my other volts has the exact same issue. You will see a video soon addressing this. In brief it can be a few things in order from most likely to least. It can be a leak in the battery cooling radiator, leak from the hoses that go to the radiator, or your battery is internally leaking and it's leaking out from the drain plug in the back of the car. Look to see where the spot in the driveway is. If it's really far up front close to the front bumper its likely the battery cooling radiator. The car has three radiators and this one is the one that is the most up front one. It can get damaged the easiest.

@@abuzar1 Great video! Similar to the comment above my 2014 Volt has a high voltage charging message with a check engine light on. It wont hold a charge. I went ahead and took it to the dealership and was showing a few codes, P1FFF which is a coolant level fault. They also said they found the surge coolant hybrid tank leaking. $1000 to fix it I would rather try to fix it on my own. Could you go over how one could check to see if there is a leak? I don’t see any leaks on the ground when I park. Looking at the battery coolant reservoir it is very low. Do you recommend I fill it up or should I first identify if there is indeed a leak?
@abuzar1
2 жыл бұрын
@@erwingarcia72 I would pressure test the system. You’ll need to buy an 80 dollar tool to do it. Then I would fill it back up and the tool will add pressure to the system. If the pressure leaks out you know there is a leak and you’ll be be to visually identify it as well. However, if the dealership already diagnosed the leak then you probably just need to replace the surge tank.

Great Video, I have a 2017 Volt with erratic heating ( some time there is heat but most of the time no heat in EV and HOLD) . There is air in the system, and i am looking for the leak it should be easy to find it since it is under pressure and it should be leaking out.

@@abuzar1 I enjoyed watch you video. It gave me an ideas of what i was up against. It turned out to be a lose clamp( my guess it was not torqued ) and the problem showed up 4 years later.Ended up taking it to GM to purge the 4 cooling systems.

And or depending on the year and liter size it could very well be the piston rings. Chevy had a major issue with their piston rings for a while.

Lol well it didn’t need it. Learn from my mistakes. So the Chevy coolant tanks have a little port that prevents you from pulling a vacuum. You need a Chevy specific adapter.

Couldn't a person just stick a small cork in that little port to seal it up? I think that's what I'll try.

@@BenjaminNelsonX Yes! I have also put in a disposable nitrile glove in that port and that also works. The vacuum sucks it in and then you're able to occlude the port.

Honestly I’ve done many repairs on a volt without bleeding the coolant and it’s been fine. What you want to do is check shortly afterwards and top off as the air bleeds off.
