In case anyone is wondering, "Dohicky" is an industry term, and was chosen mainly for its compact form factor and ease-of-use. During the military testing process, it's primary competition was "Thingamabob". "Whatchamacallit" was also in the running, but dropped out earlier in the stress testing phase, as it was shown that its length and general overall unwieldiness prevented it from being used effectively.

That gun is featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and used frequently in multiplayer where the players are often running around with it quick scoping despite its massive weight and the player's goofy grip on the rifle. In MW2, the M200 Intervention does not negatively affect mobility while guns like the M4A1 are about 3/4ths as mobile.

I get what your saying. He just spent ten minutes giving a concise history, and a detailed description of the features of, what is essentially, a masterful work of engineering, the culmination of great minds, and passionate craftsmen, just to have someone watch it and ask "yes, but can you quickscope with it?" It is asinine, and a little disrespectful, but I guess its to be expected, and maybe when they grow up they'll have a bit more appreciation for firearms after watching vids like this, rather than vids uploaded by people with "look, it makes a loud bang!!!" mentality from the "dual-wielding, full auto, exploding zombies" channels, that like to cater to the simple minded, easily amused children that make up an alarming portion of youtube viewers. It hurts... nostalgia for the days when I took a 3000 metre shot at some bad guys in Pripyat after killing about 50 of them and camping for a week in a building without them finding the bodies... oh, I was just a leftenant back then. Now I'm old, have 10th prestige, and have been in SAS, 75th Regt., 1st SFOD Delta, TF141, Spetsnaz, Opfor, and Marine Force Recon. Life is dull now that I have no family and only all gold guns on my wall. All I can do is sit here, watching cable whilst drinking mountain dew. Sometimes I think back to when I fought on all 20 maps around the world, died about 3000 times, and screamed like a girl into the mic at enemies on the battlefield. Once, I got four care packages taken away from me, so I killed 25 enemies with a helicopter then just nuked the whole place. A nuke within a mile of me hurt, but I walked away just fine, and I brought my kdr up above 1 before quitting the specfor because I had trouble with nightmares from slaughtering hundreds of civvies in a russian airport in an attempt to start WW3. Makarov shot me in the head and they found my body, so I had to go to the Favela to find the shell that was right next to me when I died. I went to defend America and killed a few hundred ruskies with a laptop and missiles, then I went in an AC130 and killed even more. I proceeded to take Washington D.C. with just my M4 and a flare. After being lit on fire, I went to kill the traitorous general. I stormed an outpost full of elite men and killed em all, no big deal. Then while I had been stabbed I pulled the knife out of my stomach and threw it at his eye lol. A few days later, I was recovered and I went after Makarov. Then I died and I had to go hang him from the helipad on his highrise in dubai. Then I smoked a cigar while watching his body swing around. So yeah. I guess you could say that I've seen some shit. I have this gun still on my wall with gold camo. - Captain from 69th F.A.Z.E. Regt., 420th Batt.

i wouldnt be so quick to diminish video games, their potential for cognitive conditioning is already quite well known in the medical business ( alot of surgeons play videogames for that reason). Not only does regular playtime increase reflexes and finesse , it also shows clear improvement in rapid decision making , which all quite frankly is what a good shooter needs. So one could argue , that chances increase when you start playing them..

I like most of your videos, I love the backstory about the weapons and how you present the facts and you also dispel the myths while showing a respect to the history of each and the men who have a love of the weapon due to how it served them or kept them and their buddies alive, this is not a forgotten weapon by any means but it's an awesome delivery system in the hands of those who've devoted themselves to the discipline of mastering it and honed their skills by their utter dedication to their craft, I've heard the tactical and technical gurus discuss this rifle but I feel I've gained more from your quick review than I did watching all of theirs combined and at the end of the day I just respect the hell out of your opinion and although I don't always agree with you it's because my opinions are based on what little I know and yours are the culmination of your experience and overwhelming breadth of your weapons knowledge, thanks for your insights and another great video Ian

I really like your practical and pragmatic approach to the weapons you describe. In this video you provided information from simple stuff like the carry handle (because the gun weighs a ton) to complex things like a bullet losing accuracy when going from supersonic to subsonic speed, but it's all important details about how the gun works in real life. No glorifying or gun porn. I guess I'm biased as a grew up with a father who is an extremely pragmatic engineer.

Take a moment and observe the beauty of the M200 with me. Observe the monopod design, an endlessly durable and functional column of solid metal, remeniscing one's thoughts to a column on a long abandoned temple. Grace your eyes onto that built-in level, just a cylinder of knurled contained metal. Everything is unassuming, yet there are a few features that jump out at you and shout "This is special". Look at that riser mount for that Nightforce. So many minutes of elevation give hint as to the distance this rifle can reach, like a special forces bodyguard wearing a finely tailored Armani suit, barely concealing the rippling muscles and icy veins beneath. The way the free-floated smooth handguard just delicately presents itself around the barrel, nothing gaudy at all, and with that unassuming and indestructible bipod design gracing the end like a shoe on the end of a ballerina's foot. The buttstock, collapsible yet solid as the Pentagon, gently arches over the inside cavity like a flying buttress in a gothic cathedral. The carry handle, utterly functional, yet romantically beautiful like the fossilized jawbone of an ancient predator. Take in the rifle as a whole, whose emotionless parallel lines betray the brutal and surgical death it can deal in the right hands. The M200 represents the zenith of what a self-absorbed and competent killer can be. It had it's own round, it's own suppressor, and its own special set of quirks and features. Complete selfishness, yet deserved. The Dracula of firearms. Seen and beloved in TV shows, movies, and video games alike, yet wholly unseen and unobtainable to all but the most desirous. It is overwhelmingly heavy, and has one purpose. It's only purpose is to be the best at one single objective, and that is killing people or destroying things from a stationary position very, very, very far away. And that friends, is pure beauty to me.

My main problem with precision shooting is time/money, unless your a millionaire you can't afford glass, spotting scope, weather tools/computers, ammo, gun it's neverending. Also like you said the time it takes to actually understand principles/practice, and it's to much time for regular working people, plus a lot of places don't have ranges that long. I liked your little primer on windage and ballistics, it's interesting to note that modern computing technology was driven largely by the need for making ballistics calculations (cryptography being another major influence). Human eye-hand coordination seems to engage a complex set of computational functions of the brain and body, hence our likely arboreal past and the advent of our ballistic hunting technologies may have likely played a key role in our brains development to higher levels of complexity and orientation to memory density and planning ability.

I think disassembly on a gun like this is quite difficult, if even possible without tools. To ensure accuracy you minimise moving parts. Any easily removable part could change its fit during transportation or because of recoil. So anything that's just screwed on by hand might deteriorate accuracy. Therefore taking this apart probably requires half a workshop.

Most gnarly wound I ever gave was with a .338 Winchester round. 235 yards and lower elevation, my target was a poor little buck that took one shot and was out before his knees buckled. The heart and lungs turned into a soup in the upper diaphragm, and then while skinning the poor bastard, his right arm fell off (impact side) because the shoulder was ripped apart from being four inches away from the entry wound. It's a fucking impressive bullet, .338 win is a great long range bullet, I may have ruined some meat but I got them tenderloins. I plan on shooting a lapua someday, but my fathers win. Will always be treasured by me.

Wind, Wind, and Wind are the three things that make everything beyond 1000 yds. a matter of luck. It's funny that people think some cartridges are "wind bucking". when the wind blows 10 MPH; a Boeing 747 goes sideways 10MPH; every time. Your explanation was very realistic.

You should have added in the beginning that somewhere along the line, you WILL find Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 information on the CheyTac Intervention

That spirit level (green bubble thing, for those who don't know) that folds out on the side: is that a feature that's present on other weapons? I have never seen it before.
@ForgottenWeapons

Yes, it's something you will see added to lots of precision rifles.
Spirit level? I've used things like that in scaffolding a lot, we just call them 'levels' or perhaps 'bubble levels', but generally just 'levels'.
@Ghost_Of_SAS

Norman M Yeah, i always called them levels too, but when I googled it to make sure it was correct, i discovered the full term is "spirit levels", on account of the fact they usually have ethanol inside.

In addition to the factors listed one also needs to know the muzzle velocity of the round they are shooting and the deviation between one round and the next. A lot of rounds in .308 Win with a standard deviation of 20fps compared to a SD of 10fps can have as much as a 20% change in the chance to hit. Also one needs bullets with a very consistent copper jacket. As the bullet is traveling down the barrel it is rotating around it's dimensional center, as it leaves the barrel the rotation changes to the center of gravity inducing instability, this will increase what is known as limit cycle yaw which matters a lot at extended ranges, this is also exacerbated by faster twist barrels. But faster twist barrels are what it needed to keep the bullet stable at long range because the center of gravity is behind the center of pressure as the bullet moves downrange, the pressure is trying to make the bullet tumble and the rigidity induced by rotation is what keeps that from happening. And the list goes on..

Can't say where or when, but somewhere in the Western states and sometime in the first quarter of this year, CheyTac approached the company I worked for about producing parts for the .375 Intervention (if memory serves). I got to hold one. So lucky. And yes, it is heavy enough to bench.

Shouldn't the bolt have grooves on it? I saw a documentary about it years ago and that one had grooves so it slides easier and doesn't get stuck in colder weather

If your rifle was so wet that it then froze close.....well other things are going to be of concern first, like your limbs getting frostbite.

That more for weight if anything else, since you can shave off a few ounces doing that (depending on gun and bolt size). And if you don't know ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain.

***** At this point, the gun is so big it really has no military applications in any serious setting, its a Anti Martial rifle at this weight range, it stays inside the base waiting to punch holes in engine blocks, thats about all this sort of thing in realty is good for, its the same weight range as the M82/M107, and neither of those are normally huffed around.

Redneck Fury Trust me I know how useless guns like these are. No soldiers has ever liked this type of rifle. No commander has seen much use in them. These fail under specialist gear, thus it serves one maybe two purposes and thats it. But then again i was just noting about why the bolts are grooved in some bolt guns, and not really talking about this rifle.

It took me a long time to realize people were commenting on long guns based on Video Games. I've never looked at a video game; but I have shot in Competition at 1,000 yds. with iron sights. It's amazingly difficult. That was with a 30-06 Springfield; service weapons only but you could use an after-market peep sight.

This rifle is a true boss! Too bad ammo is so proprietary compared to 50 BMG, 338 LM, 308 Win, 300 WinMag and 6.5 Creedmoor.

I think the design of this rifle makes it look like the worlds best gunsmith built it from whatever hardware could be found or looted after the apocalypse.
