This is such a well thought out video. Thank you for looking into this, especially since it’s such a rare condition. Blessings!!!

You are very welcome. ... It's actually WAY more common than previously thought. Although they are uncommon (and usually expensive), upright MRI has found that Chiari can occur in upward of 20% of people after a whiplash injury.

This is great info, and something more people should know about. I was diagnosed when i was 15 years old or so. At that time i set about 3mm too low. Just enough to matter. It is believed another issue causing sever elevated pressure actually pushed my brain down. And it stayed there. . I started seeing Dr. Bell mostly for this reason. To date i have suffered no notable symptoms, my cervical care is more preventative than anything.

My herniation was 19mm with a mass effect on my brain stem at diagnosis. Surgery was a necessity at that time due to the neuro symptoms it was causing. The chiari pressure headaches have definitely decreased. Thank you for this very informative video! I hope it helps someone else understand a chiari malformation!

You're welcome. Yes, that's DEFINITELY surgery level then. For reference for other viewers, the herniation in the pictures I have here are 3-5mm, so 19mm is QUITE huge by comparison.

Could be quite a few things. One of the first things I'd want to see if you were a client in my own practice is an MRI that includes the whole brain plus the upper neck.

@@DrJeffreyHannahDC Had a MRI ten years ago. they said whiplash. and brain injuries. I get that my face is turning to ice a lot. evern some times my eye balls. I try to drink water and it stays at the top of my throat. I am trying not to put my head back and use a nose cup. drinking tiny bits at a time. Eating jelly helps.

@@badfairy9554 Okay, I'm hearing a few layers here. If it was chiari (or borderline), that would appear on the MRI. This sounds like something is affecting the vagus nerve and likely also the trigeminal nerve. Both of these are influenced by the upper neck but can also be vascular issues affecting the brainstem as well. I'd advise a couple of courses of action: 1) neurologist for recent testing, including an updated MRI to show blood flow 2) functional neurologist to rehabilitate the injured brain centers 3) craniocervical specialist for stabilizing the upper neck from the whiplash injury. Goto UCCNearMe.com for a directory.
