Chiaroscuro is an Italian word from the mid-17th century, meaning "clear" (chiaro) and "obscure" (scuro), which, in the 17th century, not only pertained primarily to light and dark, but was also considered in color (a clear or pure color against a more dull or obscure color) and details (sharp, close-up details - clear, against details in shadows - obscured). This practice is mentioned in late 17th c. art manuscripts, which today, the term chiaroscuro has become limited to the understanding of dark and light ~ ~ ~

Actually, "scuro" it doesn't mean "obscure", it means "dark", as was stated in the video. Please look at a dictionary.

DaVinci used this technique to render atmospheric realism . With the effect of glazes but it's a difference between that and light and dark. I studied caravaggios work so it's about light and shadow , that is what he's talking about in the video.

Keep teaching these unique techniques! It’s an eye opening education on how the great masters worked. Your accent and humor are great but consider sub titles for us hard of hearing folks. Thank you!

Thanks Avik, the most important is to practice our eyes to see dark / light / dark / light. First on simple object, then on more complex subject. It's a wonderful concept and I hope more artists use it :) !

idk man. Caravaggio's works just have a dark background in the entire painting, whether the subject is dark or light.
