Best thing in the freaking world: you got the classic Funk of chic, the best bassline ever, the fun and energetic style of rapper's delight, man I just love this so much it can get me out of any bad day. Theses guys actually gave me the will to learn bass and start a Funk Cover Band 2 years ago. Now we play this song at the beggining of our gigs and I'm proud to say we do our job in keeping the funk alive in France :D

Yes, the dancer in the yellow with the headband , WAS THE MC HAMMER, can't you tell his awesome moves by now. He never fails to entertain , and even with a stage full of people, he has a way of making all eyes be on him. I wish the camera would focused on him more as I was getting into his groove. Loved Chic and Sugar hill 2gather, just shows you these songs are timeless, and music now a days is just there, it has no flavor or soul...Love me some Nile Rogers.🎸🎸🎶🎶🖤🖤🖤

There's a video of a Nile Rogers interview where he said that he didn't mind jamming with them. He was only pissed off when the writers of "Good Times" weren't credited on "Rappers Delight". I think it was eventually resolved with them being credited and a share of the royalties.

kzitem.info/news/bejne/2W1p4JatnHeWkmk they did sue and now own the rights to both songs, Queen was at the same studio and overheard Goodtimes, and tried to do something like it according to rumor and another one bites the dust was the result , it was different enough not to sue, however sugar hill gang was a straight rip without permission or credit given and even sampled the strings, they had to be sued and were. But that was the biggest or one of the biggest selling hiphop singles of all time, even though it got very little radioplay compared to a lot of songs because rap was still sort of new, and the lyrics back than was a little racy, so it was number one but the charts than put alot of their numbers on radio play, and without it yu did not get no #1 very often, no cell phones or downloads or internet as we know it back than, cds were just about to be a thing but lips and 45's ruled and cassettes and boomboxes and sony walkmans were king.

I wonder what bass guitar / amplifier / effect Jerry Barnes is playing. Bass line sounds fat, deep a little bit "fried". Is it set an octave below ?
@lightbrown95
7 жыл бұрын
I don't think he is using effects or his bass is set octave below. He just achieved a good tone by tuning his amp correctly and his bass settings of course. That bass is clean and fat though! What ever settings he used it sounded heavenly lol
@danielrosadoguitar
4 жыл бұрын
No suboctave. Just clean tone with quite a bit of compression coming out of the speakers. The Jazz Bass helps a lot, too. Just set it so that you get more from the front (neck) pickup than from the rear (bridge) one. As for compression try a Ross; they're reissuing those now.

MarcoS s They sampled "Good Times", -aka used parts of it directly- most notably the bass line, to make "Rapper's Delight" and that is why Nile and Bernard get the songwriter's credit. Sugarhill Gang put the rap on top of it. I think it's cool that they treat it sort of like a collaboration now. Nile does the rap live during this song.

Chic is what made rap mainstream, it was that bassling alone that made a paradiam shift, passing of the guard, new era in music, from dance and pop to dance pop and rap. Still the best bass groove of all time! And most copied and imitated. And that's a good thing. And when Bernard was playing it in the studio the engineer jaw drop as if he heard magic for the first time and Bernard was like just casually playing it like it was nothing special. We all know better now. And the scary thing is, he has a ton more just as good even harder to play, just as fun, but this is the one that was MAGIC. kzitem.info/news/bejne/2W1p4JatnHeWkmk

Known as “sampling,” the practice dates back to 1979, when the Sugar Hill Gang brazenly featured Chic's “Good Times” as the basis for its “Rapper's Delight,” now considered rap's first hit single.
